According to anti-death penalty activist and author Shane Claiborne, American Christians have long been beholden to a hyper-punitive model of justice that favors the wealthy, white, and well-connected. But as he details in this episode, many within the church are awakening to a radically new vision of justice that opposes the death penalty not in spite of the Christian faith, but because of it. Central to this vision is the crucifixion of Christ - a bloody sacrifice that many consider to be the execution to end all executions.

Bravo! This is a discussion I can get on board with. Shane has a beautifully thought out, and definitely a Holy Spirit led, passionate and theologically argument. Yeshua is, and always should be our lense. He is our example. He is MERCY, and GRACE and, overall, He is LOVE!🙏❤

I love the interview style and technique of Pastor Huffman, he has hot button subject content and isn't afraid to ask the hard questions and stand his ground for what is right. It always seems like there are certain types of advocates of certain controversial subjects that push their agenda with false narratives, just as Mr Claiborne has done in this interview several times. Ill give a couple of stand out examples... Charles Manson was indeed given the death penalty in 1969 as well as four of his followers for 6 murders. Shortly after these DP convictions were handed out and all were placed on Death Row the California Supreme Court struck the death penalty in California. So anyone on Death Row at that time their sentences with commuted to Life in Prison, everyone, rich or poor and all races not just the white criminals aka "wealthy, white, and well-connected" Even more of a head scratcher is why Mr Claiborne chose to use the Jeffery Dalmer conviction in pushing his agenda. Jeffery Dalmer was from Milwaukee Wisconsin, the 17 murders he committed were in Milwaukee Wisconsin and the trial was also in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Wisconsin was the first State to strike down the death penalty in 1853 and have never changed it since then including when Dalmer was on trial in 1991. So for over 138 years the state of Wisconsin has not had the DP even available for convicted criminals there to receive it, including Jeffery Dalmer...as well as any other race or wealth class of person. Mr Claiborne being so well read on the death penalty, I personally find it impossible to believe that he wasn't fully aware of the actual facts presented above when he chose to misrepresent them in this interview... With this being said I'm not saying I'm for or against the death penalty, my point is and in my opinion, no matter which side of the fence someone is on with any given subject they need to be honest and state the facts, especially if they are a Christian.

Where can I find more about you, Shane? Your example of what the statistics are regarding the disproportionate numbers of people of colour, and zip code rings true here in Australia, where I live. Our indigenous peoples have a very similar struggle. I thank God that we don't have the death penalty 😢

Edward Feser should debate Shane. I think Feser would clearly convince most.
