Bud, and Gloria, I returned to US in February 2023 to have an angiogram w/ stent placement. As long as I was in US, I decided to get some other things taken care of, and finally get some payback for all the Medicare contributions I had made through-out my work-life. Cataract surgery was high on my list, as I was nearly blind in my left eye and the cataract was 35% advanced in my right eye. It was really a breeze, the surgeries were done 3 weeks apart, with the final check appointment on my left eye being combined with my preop for my right eye. Now, at 73, I see as well as I did at 25. There was zero pain, the healing period is short and sweet, and Medicare picked up the full tab; just be sure to get the prescribed eyedrops and use them as directed. Residing in Valencia now, so I hope to see you both when you visit in Duma next year. Happy Holidays.

I had cataract surgery / lens replacement done here in Vietnam about 15 months ago. Im so happy to be able to see as well as I did as a teenager. My lens are corrective and I no longer need glasses and can even read well without them. My procedure s were done 3 days apart. My doc wanted to do both same day, I voted no. Do not wait too long as my mother in law did and now they can not help her. My procedure took about 15 minutes each time. Its pretty fast. The bandage was removed about 8 hours after and i could already see well. Eyes heal quickly. The doctor said I would need eyedrops forever but I rarely suffer from dry eye, so no need. You will need to apply the drops for a month or two afterward for certain. I was given 3 different kinds. Do not be afraid, its a routine procedure. Hope this info helps.

Wow! I'm looking at starting my first cataract procedure sometime in January. I need to do a preop first. Paul, The Old Dog, finished his second procedure about three weeks ago still recovering from it. Everything seems to be coming along quite well for him. Everybody I've talked to says it's a piece cake. So, I have confidence Gloria and I will be okay. Walay problemo. Now, Gloria may have trouble adjusting to your looks, Bud. Keep that in mind. My wife had both eyes done ...each a month apart and she now complains about the wrinkled old man she can see who she married:) ..the surgery is amazing ..she went in at 8:30 am and sent home at midday.- she had no problems and was given her driving licence back 3 weeks after the 2nd eye was done ( she is 69 yo)

Good luck on your Cataract Surgery. It’s a very quick and safe procedure and ten minutes is about right as what your surgeon said. The preop takes longer than the actual procedure. They use a microscope to operate on your eye and it’s very safe. Just follow your doctor’s instructions. Most patients are awake during the procedure but are given relaxing meds and monitored the whole time. Once your procedure is done you’ll be taken to recovery room and monitored for a few minutes and mostly given snacks and drinks.You’ll be in good hands I pray. God bless you both.🙏🏽💕

My late grandpa had his cataracts removed & got lasik in his 90s. He seemed happy with it. It was painless. I don't know exactly how long the cataract removal took, but it was definitely less than 30 min. I had lasik done a few years ago & it took less than 20 mins. for both eyes. I had the surgery on a Friday, slept the whole day, wore dark goggles on the weekend, & went back to work on Monday with HD vision. Only side effect was dry, grainy eyes for a few weeks but you'll get prescribed eye drops from the opthalmologist. Similar experience with my grandpa's cataract surgery. Modern eye surgery is amazing.

Good for you two. I had cataract surgery about five years ago now, had both eyes done at once, I was 65. I think the process took maybe 20 minutes to half an hour. I could see well right after the surgery. Before surgery they were going to take my drivers license away. There are 3 different levels of lenses you can get. Make sure they explain that to you. I have a stigmatism in my eyes so I need to wear glasses still, cataract surgery does not correct that. But the highest level of lens will allow the person not to wear glasses if they don’t have a stigmatism. In order to fix the stigmatism they would actually have to cut the area around my eye and detach muscle, so no way. The “surgery” is easy Gloria, no pain and you will never think about having a lens after a few days. It really is a marvel what they can do. Good luck.

Good to hear you're going back to the Philippines. I had cataract surgery and it is a very short procedure! I got prescription lenses implants done and even though it's pricey I don't need prescription glasses or contacts. I'm just saying it's an option. After the first eye is completed she will heal for about 3 weeks before the other eye is done. Medical drops are given to heal the eye. My wife and I have watched your channel for years. Both of you look very happy about the news and that’s a good thing. Take care.

Bud I am a retired Certified Registered Nurse Anesthesiologist. I have had cataract surgery on both eyes. A good cataract surgeon is usually also a fast surgeon. Ten minutes operating time is not unusual. It’s very safe and usually only light sedation. Best wishes.

Hey Bud and Gloria, Jim Jones here. But we talked at ground zero one day. We were at San Miguel about the same time. I had cataract surgery about 3-4 years ago. Same type process, they did one eye and a few weeks the other. I had zero problems and the surgery itself is quick. I have worn reading glasses for the past 20 years. It was funny as about 3 days after the 2nd surgery, I realized my sight was better than 20/20 in both eyes. I thought wow this is great. I didn’t think it corrected that type if vision problems. When I went back for my final checkup, I told the Dr. about it. He just said “Don’t throw away your glasses” I ask why, he said there was a 90% chance they would return to the need for my reading glasses. Then he added of course everything will be brighter and and sharper contrast, but the focus will return to the way it was before surgery. He was right. About 2-3 months later I was back to my reading glasses. But still a great improvement as not looking through milky lenses. Hope you enjoy your trip. I’m not going to be in Dumaguete anymore as I am going to move into the Subic freeport zone, the old base. But maybe next time.

It’s a vibrant city with lush greenery, a modern transportation system, and walkable streets. I’ve heard that street bicycles are an integral part of Mexican society, so much so that the streets are closed on Sundays for them. The city boasts beautiful architecture, delicious food, and excellent healthcare.

Just had catarack surgery last month.....took 15-minutes or so. Day of procedure is when your eye waters and it is uncomfortable. After that, all got better and my vision improved 100% on that eye. I was amazed how my Trap Shooting improved because of that improved vision......Nothing to be concerned about there Bud and Gloria...It is a procedure the eye surgeon does many times daily and successfully. If you go to Duma, stay the winter .....not only 2 months. We usually came back to Canada in April when we went there..

Bud my Dad just had the surgery about six months ago. The surgery itself only takes about 10 minutes, but the sedation and numbing of the eye everything takes about an hour. They did the first eye then about 10 days later, they scheduled the second eye all in all it took about a month to do both eyes and everything to clear up.

I had my eye surgery almost 10 years ago and I am very happy with the results. With the new lenses I didn't have to wear glasses anymore. I only use readers for close up reading. You can get reader glasses for under $10. It's safe Bud.

My husband had lasix. It is very fast. Only took 12minutes. They are a pro. So dont be afraid. It is worth it. You will be able to see well after 3 to 7 days. It is amazing.

As a matter of fact it was actually a little quicker than that. From my experience it was nothing to worry about. Hi Bud, I had cataract surgery almost 10 years ago. A few things, they only do 1 eye at a time just to be safe. Second, the procedure takes 10 to 15 minutes. When they did mine they gave me a Valium and let it take affect. They need you awake to let them know you can see while they do it. Mine took about 10 minutes, if I can remember. Then they let me go home. Wore an eye patch for a week, taking it off to practice reading. 6 weeks later, I had the other eye done. Bad news they told me not to fly for several months until it was healed. Other than that I really enjoyed being able to see again.

Cataract surgery or procedure is really quick and easy. Mine lasted only about maybe 10 or 15 minutes. And it wasn’t painful at all. My doctor recommended to have both eyes done so I agreed. Each eye was done about a month apart. Probably the longest wait was the prep for the surgery. Overall, it was a painless experience. Cataract surgery by the way as the doctor emphasized doesn’t really improve nearsightedness (i.e., reading close) but it helps farsightedness. And according to the doctor you’ll never get cataracts again after surgery. And yes! my doctor said he’s done cataract surgeries over a thousand times.already. Mine was done at Balboa hospital. Excellent service!
