"This isn't a library buy it or get out" Sheldon said that but as we can see several times in the show, they spend a lot of their time at the comic book store reading comic books, so that's not logical

Ever hear of character development?
@kaylethejudicator23682 жыл бұрын
Every hear of Flanderization? Cause that is exactly what people are describing when they talk about the decline of a character. It is something that a lot of stories can suffer from, but it is extremely prevalent in sitcoms. It is the process of take a complex character and eventually perverting it into a sort of caricature of what they once were exaggerating certain traits and dumbing down the rest either because the writers lacked the ability to continue to properly express said character or what commonly happens is the higher ups decided that these specific traits are the profitable ones and market them harder. The term was actually coined as a TV Trope using Flanders from the Simpsons that the mascot for the term: >"Flanders himself is a complex example of flanderization, having undergone the process in the middle seasons of the show before once again returning to a similar portrayal to his original one. Originating as "perhaps the only genuinely well-meaning, good-natured person in Springfield", Flanders was originally intended to be an ideal ("annoyingly perfect") neighbor who served as a contrast and foil for Homer Simpson. As a devoutly religious and church-going man, his faith was intended to serve as a contrast to Homer's lack of religious sophistication. However, over the course of the show's run, Flanders was simplified into a religious fundamentalist whose Christianity was his primary defining characteristic."< You can see this in a few other characters and shows like Homer or Peter Griffen, initially portrayed as street smart but oafish/clusmy in other aspects of life but most importantly well meaning in their actions being perverted into a forced gag of mentally retarded drunkards. etc etc etc etc What people are talking about is not character development at all, it is flanderization and it gets more and more obvious as the seasons go by leading up to the end of TBBT

I hate this show. It actually wouldn't be that expensive to open a comic book store. You don't need to own the building. You rent a location like many other small retailers. You don't need a large staff. Most of the hours of operation can be covered by the owner. You don't need to open very early or stay open very late. Much of your inventory can be provided by the publishers/distributors with unsold items returned and a fairly good grace period between receiving your stock and paying. You only need some counters, shelves and bins. The accounting needs are pretty straightforward in terms of revenues, costs and expenses. Location and a general understanding of the customer base and brands appear to be the most important assets. Relatively small profit margins would have to be offset by buying used editions and selling them at a higher markup than what the new issues cost. If anything the danger is like an ice cream shop owned by someone who eats too much of their inventory. Just be cautious about turning your passions into your job.

Buying a comic book store sounds fun until you realise your at the wrong end of a distribution monopoly that functions like a human centipede where the only way you get stock to sell is by eating everything Diamond Distribution shits into your mouth. And the only alternative is digital distribution which cuts you out of the business model completely
@seanwebb605Ай бұрын
I think the profit margins are quite small, but the operating costs are small too. The only way to really increase your margins is to use the new pulp fiction issues as your loss leaders to get people into your store while you buy and sell older issues and resell at higher margins.
