Bill Conti's score was very nice, but original Éric Serra version is like.... the higher level. It's more than just music. I really don't know the American producers replaced it

I agree Eric Serra's score is one of the best scores to depict the concept of the sea in musical terms...world class piece!

I would really like the American version but its very hard to find I absolutely love this movie but i love the American version best

There are at least 3 different versions of this movie. Maybe 4. We all love the version we first saw. The other ones are just not the same. For me, the European theatrical version from '88 is the REAL one. For you, it's the edited American version where they replaced the original soundtrack with music by Bill Conti. Today, only the 3 hour long directors cut is available. But for me, that's not "The Big Blue". And neither for you. It's sad. They should not have made so many different versions.

Do you know how/where I can get an HD Blu-Ray (or digital download) of the American Version??? Would love to have it - one of my favorite all time films, but don't like the UK or Director's Cut Version and Score. Have an old VHS Tape of the American Version but can't find it on DVD or Blu-Ray anywhere...

@@ingemar4949 Yep, that's what I always say. The world would be boring if we all like the same thing. The Serra version is more "jazzy" to me and I'm not a fan of jazz. The Conti version is more new age and traditional motion picture sounding to me which is what I like. But to each their own! :-)

It just shows that once you see the movie for the first time with a particular score, you stick to that score. That proves that the movie is great whatever the score. By the way, Éric Serra sold more than 3 million copies of his Big Blue score.
