I highly recommend “I Know This Much is True” by Wally Lamb for a chunkier book. If you’re a fan of A Little Life or The Goldfinch then you will instantly be a fan. The book spans generations, heavy character focus, gritty, just an overall beautiful story. Please read!

Have just finished Ducks, Newberryport and finding the courage to start Infinite Jest. The best maximal novel I’ve read is Gravity’s Rainbow by Pynchon - just sat for an hour after I’d finished so sad that I’d never read it for the first time again. Good luck with Les Mis, smash through the wall and stay safe. Thanks for the vids Jasmine, you always bring something a bit different to the booktube table and long may it continue.

What a fun tag. I have a lot of big books and I have quite a few that I still need to read. I tend to have a thing for big books lol Large Epic fantasy books are my favorites. I read Les Mes in high school and loved it and it was SO long, but apparently, the rest of the class read the abridged version and I was just not aware that was an option LOL My recent favorite BIG book is Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, I love the mistborn series as well but his Stormlight Archive sEries is just to die for!
@JasmineReads4 жыл бұрын
Oh you should totally do it! It was a lot of fun😊 Long fantasy books are so great. That's so cool that you read Les Mis in school! Good effort!😅 I have never read any Brandon Sanderson books, but I'd definitely like to at some point x

Those are some big books :P I'm surprised none of the Wolf Hall book count, my mum just read the first one and it's massive! I don't know about reading big books, my plan at the minute (as I'm spending all this time at home) is to read the books that I've been very excited to read but just haven't? Five star predictions if you will :P Currently reading "The Silence of the Girls" by Pat Barker and I'm adoring it. It's beautiful and powerful and I'm mad I didn't read it when I first got it at the end of last year! :) Going to be picking up The Red Clocks by Leni Zumas or Circe by Madeleine Miller next :)
@JasmineReads4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it's huge! I think different editions of books have different page counts, so it very well could have made it if I'd had different versions of the books I own. It was close! And that's a great plan. I really enjoyed The Silence of the Girls when I read it last year. Good luck with your reading, and stay safe! x

Jas this was so interesting! I never really read big books due to lack of concentration, but you may have convinced me about A Book Of American Martyrs?! Also possibly the Brandon Sanderson series?? I’ve heard such good things about it. I just love hearing you rave about your epic lit fic reads 😂✊🏼 ps your hair is on point, bravo
@JasmineReads4 жыл бұрын
Oooh go me! I will say that I think A Book of American Martyrs is way more about the characters than exploring the ethical debate (although is everything, in a sense, revolves around that). I think you'd reeeally like Mistborn. Haha thank you thank you on both accounts🙏💗
@imperatrice2114 жыл бұрын
Definitely need to pick up A Little Life at some point! I love The Goldfinch so much 😍 (hated the adaptation though :/) I finally picked up the Mistborn trilogy earlier this month so I hope to read it this year 😊 I plan on reading The Wise Man's Fear in May, I hope I like it! :) Really enjoyed the first one though I'm not a fan of Patrick Rothfuss's writing 🤔 Great tag! Hope you're doing okay 🤗
@JasmineReads4 жыл бұрын
Yeahhhh man! Do it. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it if you do😊 Glad to hear you also love The Goldfinch. I wasn't aware there was an adaptation! I guess I won't bother with it😅 I hope you love Mistborn! It's such a fun series. A great one to pick up at the moment, I think. Oooh interesting! Do you know what it is about Patrick Rothfuss' writing that you don't like? Thank you for your lovely comment. Hope you're doing well, Morgane xx

@@JasmineReads I'll definitely read it at some point but I'm focusing on the books I already have on my TBR right now :) Yeah, don't 😅 For sure, I'm loving fantasy right now 😊 Well for one, I don't love writing that is too descriptive but besides that, I just don't like his sentences idk, it feels like he's trying hard to write beautifully and to be profound sometimes but it just doesn't flow well enough for me 💁♀️ You're welcome and I'm doing great, thank you xx

I keep hearing about A Little Life and a friend of mine has been telling me to read Les Mis for decades now (I'm so old!!!). Also, is it bad to refuse to read Rothfuss until the series is completed??? Great tag!!

You definitely have to experience A Little Life for yourself! Les Mis is soooo good. Such a rich reading experience - and not nearly as difficult to get through as I'd feared! I feel you on the Rothfuss. No sign of a third book yet. It is frustrating indeed haha

Instead of reading all those big books I have at home, I am making the most of the free month that Scribd currently has & reading all those books that are on there that I don't own. When that's over, I'll go back to my Jane Austen books, Throne of Glass and Harry Potter. The biggest book I have ever read has to be the Wolkenvolk series by Kai Meyer (sadly not available in English...) and it was all three books in one with 1200 pages. So I guess it doesn't really count. But the Red Queen series, especially the last one, is quite a big and long book. But it always depends on the edition. When I read in German, books tend to have 100 pages less than the "standard" book in English that Goodreads has. That's very confusing
@JasmineReads4 жыл бұрын
Niiiice, I'm also making the most out of the free audiobooks! That's a great line up there. I might use this time inside to reread some Jane Austen's as well😍 You're right that the length of books differs so much depending on the edition. I think if I'd looked at different editions of my books this list would have been very different!

I love Middlemarch, it's so beautifully written and the character exploration is in-depth and striking. I love it's exploration of purpose and everyday life. I definitely recommend reading it! The longest book I have read is probably Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell or maybe The Luminaries. They were both amazing and didn't feel like a slog at all. I think their length meant they had more time to develop their characters and themes, which was really gratifying. Have you read either of them?
@JasmineReads4 жыл бұрын
Oh amazing! That makes me even more excited to get to it! Oooh I've got Jonathan Strange on my bookshelves. I haven't heard that many people talk about it, so it's great to hear you enjoyed it. I haven't read The Luminaries either, although it's one I'd be interested in picking up at some point😊

@@JasmineReads Regarding The Luminaries, brilliant first half setting up the mystery, then slides into the perfect example of Occam's Razor. You kept hoping that the most obvious explanation is not the answer to the mystery of why nobody can remember anything, but it is.

I read Middlemarch in January/February, and I was STUNNED at how good it was. I am still a bit speechless when I try to articulate how amazing her writing is in the novel. I audibly said "holy shit" several times while reading it, and always had to read passages aloud to someone if they were sitting next to me. And in the vein of big books, here are some classics that I've read and loved....The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky, Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, The Wind-up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami, and Ulysses by James Joyce
