The dynamo is actually on the engine, it's on the engineers side below the firebox next to those red valves. The mold they have represents a big boy as built from ALCO with a different dynamo placement and those water cooling pipes on the front engine handrails.

Excellent model product review, both MTH and BLI have made some stunning models of the UP big boy in ho scale. I personally do like the whistle sound on the Bli model from what i have seen in videos and i am glad that you are pleased with your recent purchase of the Mth ho big boy, tom.

My 2013 MTH Bigboy have a main wheel issue factory defects..it even cant handle R5 curve radius marklin c track ...and a couple days ago its main wheel broken and seized to move after got stuck in a turn out..even the front wheel still running but it wont be able to move the loco...so sad

The the whistle on your model sounds terrible. It almost sounds like the whistle from a old Lionel tender that has a bad or dry bearing. I'm not sure if it's the mic or the model but it sounds terrible.
