Jean Simmons was a wonderful actress! I always enjoy her movies. And, from what I heard, she was liked by everyone who knew her.

My favorite is young Simmons in The Actress. Ruth Gordon's own story, Spencer Tracey at his usual more than competent, and Teresa Wright playing the mother role in a way that Simmons would 15 years later. It really is an excellent slice of life in the teens.

Jean Simmons got overlooked many times in her fabulous career, also The Big Country should have received atleast two other awards besides Burl Ives oscar, One for Best Picture of 1958 and one for Jerome Moross for his memorable score!!!!!

This is a treasure trove. William Wyler is the icon of icons. And Jean Simmons- this is priceless. Gregory Peck, Burl Ives, Charleston Heston and Carol Baker. And let’s not forget Harry Boy - the newest star. This is phenomenal. Thank you so much. The Big Country is one of my favorite films and this is a gift for sure. Burl Ives is adorable!!!!

Yes it was a great movie. Can you imagine these guys at well over 6 feet tall, like Connors was I think 6'5" or more and cowboy boots? That would be a mighty intimidating character and also Peck was tall. Dressed in all their western attire! I wish I could have been there and seen some of these men on set. I just love westerns!

This isn't really a behind-the-scenes video. It's a break-in-filming video. Seeing this reminded me that Jean Simmons was director William Wyler's first choice to play the princess in Roman Holiday but she had a scheduling conflict. Too bad. Her chemistry with Peck is as good as his with Audrey Hepburn. Another good chemistry is between Peck and Heston. I wish they had made another film together, maybe even Ben Hur, that had 2 strong male roles. Thank you so much for this upload!

One of the greatest film scores. Agree, probably 3 more Oscars would have been well deserved. That insurmountable Score. Sound Effects & Cinematograhy. Shame it was overly long and needed 15mins cut...I recall having heard that Wyler lost interest during production, as he was 'focusing' on Ben Hur...

If you want to hear a nice interview with Jean Simmons, go to Icons Radio where she is interviewed my Stephen Bogart, Bacall and Bogie's son. I think it was conducted about a year or so before she died. She still has her pretty voice and very nice stories to tell of her life. I believe she had some hard times in life, and was a recovering alcoholic, but she still sounded fabulous. Check it out!

Anyone have any idea what happened to Ms Simmons on the set of Big Country? After the movie was done she would never again speak of it or respond to questions or join in the reunions they had celebrating aspects of it. Just wondering cause WW had a bad rep for bullying actors on the set (like the famous spat between he and Peck) but I heard none of that with JS.
