Absolutely brilliant Western one of the very best ever! Should have with on Best Picture at Least Burl Ives won a best Supporting actor for his Unforgettable role as Rufus Hannessy! That Wonderful Theme was a work of genius by Jerome Morrose!😀🤠🤠🔫🔫🐴🐎🐎🏜️🎬🎞️📽️🎼🎵🎶🇺🇸

After reading comments I get pleasure knowing other people love the film and score as much as I do. There aren’t enough words to express how many hours of joy I have had from watching the dvd and listening to the cd. My kids humor me as I describe the film when on a cat ride. The music is so demonstrative. Thank you so much for posting this. I also like Silverado and the original Burt Lancaster/Audrey Hepburn Unforgiven. It was not politically correct but it’s still great. Just an opinion.

I can't say how much I love this score. Peck gave what I think is his finest performance in this picture, and Simmons was truly magnificent. She was a beautiful woman and a fine, subtle actress. I don't think Hollywood ever fully appreciated her or used her to best advantage.

One of the best westerns ever! Love the soundtrack. All great actors and loved Jean Simmons (a beautiful and great actress and always loved her voice) and Gregory Peck especially. Also, Burl Ives was great in this and very much deserved his Best Supporting Actor Oscar that he won. Watch this every chance I get.

georgcorfu Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find the ending on KZbin. I eventually bought the DVD on Amazon, but I do still watch it whenever TCM shows it.

Hooray for the mention of Burl Ives' Oscar-winning performance! He was from Hunt aka Hunt City, Illinois, just a short ways from here as the crow flies. We're so proud of all of his accomplishments!

Thank you for posting this great musical score that gives the viewer the feeling of endless spaces. Jerome Moross' musical composition reminds me of John Barry's powerful, rousing, & emotional score for "Dance with wolves". You also made excellent comments about the movie, the production, the script, the actors... Thank you for educating the community on this masterpiece of Hollywood cinema. L

I was very lucky, and to get the fully restored version with Dolby Stereo soundtrack was cream on the cake, especially as it was being sold at a discount. Normally, discount movies are old prints, so, I'm very pleased. Just posted it to my Facebook to share with others

The movie and theme are awesome. I think the photography is superb it has such a grand sweep. Agree that Jean Simmons was a beautiful and skilful actress - she and Gregory Peck made a very handsome couple - I wish they were cast together again - alas it was not to be...........

I also liked Jean Simmons and Gregory Peck as a couple in this movie. They both were great actors and had lots of chemistry together! Sadly, not too many really great actors are left anymore. Loved the music in this movie.

ichimonjiguy Who is Sky Masterson?
@ichimonjiguy10 жыл бұрын
L Broderick You didn't know? Surprise Surprise! :) He's the "Guys and Dolls" character played by Marlon Brando. Also, Brando and Simmons were together in the movie On the Waterfront (1954).
@lbroderick78310 жыл бұрын
ichimonjiguy For some reason I never really liked that movie! I could not get used to Marlon Brando in that role! Jean Simmons wasn't in the movie On the Waterfront. It was Eva Marie Saint. Jean Simmons did star in the movie with Marlon Brando when he played Napoleon. That's probably what you're thinking of. Can't remember the name of the movie at the moment.

A great film....thank you! Not only is this an all around wonderful film, but a visual treat for heterosexual women; two of the handsomest actors who ever lived are in it. Thank goodness Wyler doesn't allow them to take their shirts off in the same scene; women in the audience would be having heart attacks. I believe that is why they kept their shirts on in the fist fight scene.

One of the greatest films of all time!!!! Should have won Best Picture of 1958. Gigi is ok but The Big Country is much much better!!!!!
@KENZOWAL12 жыл бұрын
I understand oldmoviemusic's viewpoint. The film has enough talent in it to move mountains, especially this stirring, breathtaking theme song, my pick for the finest western theme of all time. The film itself disappointed me (e.g., it doesn't live up to Moross's music!). An associated clip here on You Tube (w/Gregory Peck) explains why. Burl Ives deserved his Oscar. Jean Simmons was great, though she's better in Elmer Gantry. Wonderful actress! Charles Bickford - another great, underrated actor!
