My top 3: Among the Living Persistence Sound of White Noise
@matthoranofficial2 жыл бұрын
11. Stomp 442 (Not a horrible album in my opinion, but definitely the most forgettable Anthrax record) 10. Vol 8. The Threat Is Real (Other than a handful of track's, I'm not that into it as a whole) 9. We've Come For You All (Solid record, nice step into the right direction) 8. Sound of White Noise (Kind of low for some people, I just think it's a tad overrated, still a solid record regardless) 7. Worship Music (Back to the roots) 6. Fistful of Metal (I know some might consider it as generic, I don't get that. This album slap's, and Subjugator is a top 10 Anthrax song for me) 5. For All King's (Best Anthrax album since 1990) 4. Spreading The Disease (They're becoming who they are on this one) 3. State of Euphoria (Underrated in my opinion, yes it was rushed, but the band knew what they were doing. One guy that I've watched said this was his favorite Anthrax record. Lol) 2. Among The Living (This is where people start coming at me. It's a perfect record guy's, but there's one that beats it out a tiny bit for me) 1. Persistence of Time (Their best songwriting to date. Time is actually my favorite Anthrax song, an underrated gem by the band and a great way to open the record)

Great to see Persistance and State of Euphoria get some love!
@matthoranofficial2 жыл бұрын
@@pairofjeansreviews2034 I might debate putting Euphoria a little lower, but Make Me Laugh, Out of Sight Out of Mind, and Now It's Dark have some unforgettable riffs. Especially the main riff in Make Me Laugh, hard to tell if they were trying to be progressive on that song.

#1 among the living - Classic sound of white noise - Strong we come for you all - Strong state of euphoria - Fun Fun Fun worship music - Good Comeback persistence of time - Dark, too long spreading decease - Big hits, some filler for all kings - overproduced filler stomp 442 - bad experimence fistfull metal - weak ideas #11 Vol 8- uninspired

Aside from my bottom one, I go back to all their albums. Some more often than others ofc. 1. Among the Living (10/10) S (flawless, simple as that!) 2. Spreading the Disease (9,5) S (just awesome!) 3. Worship Music (9/10) A (awesome comeback with explosive energy!) 4. Persistance of Time (8,5/10) A (you said it pretty accurately👍) 5. For All Kings (7,5/10) B (not as good as WM, but IMO the strongest of the big 4 albums released around that time) 6. State of Euphoria (7/10) B (good fun, if not great) 7. Sound of White Noise (7/10) B (the most consistent of the JB-era) 8. We’ve Come For You All (6,5/10) C (the most underrated by Anthrax!) 9. Fistful of Metal (6/10) C (Love the energy AND Neil Turbin, but yes pretty generic) 10. Vol. 8 (5/10) D (a handful of good tracks IMO, but a lot of filler too) 11. Stomp 442 (2/10) F (still better than St. Anger tho 😉)

Yeah I basically agree with this 100% except I may like worship music a bit more than spreading 😬

@@pairofjeansreviews2034 I’m pretty sure that our biggest disagreement is on Vol. 8, because I actually really like a good portion of it. If they had cut out maybe 5 or 6 songs I might’ve given it a 7/10. I’m currently working on my own “all big 4 ranking” to post on your video of it :D it’s a challenge, but I try \m/

Lol awesome dude! I think in a couple days Metal Meltdown is posting his anthrax video that I was guest on! We talked for like an hour about all these records so check that out!

I'd say Fistful of Metal was kinda like a 'Volume 0' than a 'Volume 1'. It never felt like Anthrax truly became Anthrax at that time, just a generic metal band. I'd say Spreading the Disease would be the true 'Volume 1' to their discography imo.

Yeah fistful is kinda a glorified demo

Stomp 442 kicks ass. Kicks the ass of all Metallica after Master. Listen to "random acts of..." Its a banger. Great grooves in "riding shotgun" and "fueled". "In a zone" is my fave. Its aggressive as all Hell. "Drop the ball" rules as well. Don't know whats supposed to be wrong with this album, and just about every review of it is like yours: "its horrible. No need to explain further ". And"the worst album of all the big 4s collected discography???? " Come on, man.

Been listening to a lot of Anthrax recently and I gotta say, I don't get the hate for Vol 8. It's doesn't have a lot to do with metal but there's some great hooks on the album. Songs like Crush, Inside Out and Killing Box are heavy songs with catchy hooks. Two great solos by Dimebag as well. It has some filler sure but it's nowhere near as bad as Stomp 442 IMO. Might sound strange but Vol 8 is the only Bush era album I can really get into, not even tSoWN does anything for me (the song Only is pretty cool I guess). I listened to WCFYA recently and nothing seemed to catch my interest, just sounds like some basic metal and nu-metal riffs with some okay hooks. Maybe I'll give it a few more listens but my first impression is meh. My ranking would probably be something like this: S - Persistence of Time, Among the Living A - Spreading the Disease, Worship Music B - Vol 8 Meh - TSoWN, WCFYA, Stomp 442 Haven't listened to yet - State of Euphoria, Fistful of Metal, For all Kings.

Love the PoT love!
@thevomit58513 жыл бұрын
@@pairofjeansreviews2034 For me PoT takes top spot. I think you're right that the songs are probably too long and it overstays its welcome but the songwriting is very powerful and the record is much darker and heavier than Among the Living.

Anthrax might just be one of my favourites of the big 4 with 'personal preference' being the biggest push to it getting the cutting edge of the best band. However, Metallica and Megadeth still gives me second thoughts (especially with Megadeth's 'Peace Sells... but who's Buying?' album as it's probably my favourite of them) but when listening back to Anthrax, It's what they do differently that boosts it IMO. The 4 albums 'Spreading the Disease', 'Among the Living', 'State of Euphoria' and 'Persistence of Time' are Anthrax's greatest evidence to this, in which it shows how distinct they were and how many risks they were willing to take which is impressive when you think of how they were the first few thrash metal bands to come out. They manage to add in ingredients from other genres of music like singing into the mix, fill the majority of their songs with riffs (the greatest distinction) and give a more fun feel to the songs with the best part being that they do all of that... ,but still managing keep it metal with being fast, heavy and vocals still feeling intimidating and heavy (real present with 'Persistence of Time'). This makes them the most distinct out the 4 with a charm that really catches my eye personally as I like to see myself as quite a hyper and energetic person inside and Anthrax really helps release that 'Michelangelo' type of attitude from me. great band, great songs, underrated classic band IMO.

They werent afraid of taking risks, and thats what makes them awesome!
@tornadojones88254 жыл бұрын
I like your ranking system, I don't agree with it entirely, but Ithink it's better than trying to create a best to worst hierarchy. You forgot about "The Greater of Two Evils". It's a studio album by Anthrax...
@pairofjeansreviews20344 жыл бұрын
Isn’t that the re-recordings? Doesn’t count
@tornadojones88254 жыл бұрын
@@pairofjeansreviews2034 I would argue that it does. Because it's almost like an album of cover songs. It's not a compilation album. Do you think it's possible that John Bush may have sung a Joey Belladonna song better than the original? It's possible and I think that it is worthy of consideration. The band clearly thought it was worth their time to do it.
