I bought Rockarolla on LP back in 1989, wish i still had it I bought because i never saw it before. Stained class in my Fav 70's JP LP. I Like all their 80's stuff. Became a Fan in 1986.

Stained and Hellbent you can't go wrong with either. I got the RSD release of the debut I like the bottle cap cover simple but effective.

Agree on everything except Ram It Down should be waay higher. 3 or 4. Rob's voice on that record is absolutely AMAZING!!

Spectre is a monster song and one of my TOP 10 Judas Priest songs ever. An unbelievable crusher. There is no comparison between ROS and Firepower tho. Redeemer was a boring and "lazy" slow album full of typical metal cliches that used to be repeated over and over again. I am glad Nostradamus made it lil bit higher. It is still a huge concept albums but with its obvious flaws - production, too many songs, too many long songs which can be unbearable for many people at times. In the case of Ripper's albums there is a huge problem there is nearly no melody in these songs (ok Catedhral Spires ruless hard). They are not bad definitely not, but industrial or thrash metal is not Judas Priest cup of tea imho

My personal ranking: Top six: Sad Wings Of Destiny, Stained Class, Screaming For Vengeance, Painkiller, Redeemer Of Souls, Firepower Not concrete: Sin After Sin, Killing Machine, British Steel, Point Of Entry, Defenders Of The Faith, Turbo, Ram It Down, Angel Of Retribution Bottom four: Rocka Rolla (the debut - not a terrible album, but not the Judas Priest you know), Nostradamus (great concept, and admire the ambition, but the execution was a mess: should have been a single disc), Jugulator and Demolition (Ripper Owens did a tremendous job on vocals, but these were a mess: both should have been cut by about a third) Note: Twin Turbos would have ranked higher - but alas, the record company idiots split it up, and rejected an offer to have Reckless on the Top Gun soundtrack (on the grounds the movie would be a dud and Tom Cruise wouldn't amount to anything).
@retro_wanderluster99624 жыл бұрын
Lots of people say Sad Wings is their best. Being a younger metalhead (in my 30s) I guess I just prefer the late 70s/80s metal more. Victim and Ripper are awesome but the proceeding 3 of the 70s I think are better. It's Rob's fav too. That's why ranking videos are so cool to watch to see each other's opinions. The first 3 are growing on me though. Nostradamous was different but as I started it wasn't really Priest. As far as Tim Owens goes that is why I like those albums his vocal abilities. He's right though if say Jugulator were a Rob Halford album it would have sold so well. Cathedral Spires is epic 😎 much like Victim of Changes was. I know that turbo was supposed to be a double album but I didn't know about the top gun thing. I personally don't like his movies much anyway 🤷 haha.

Agree with you on Nostradamus. It was a huge idea, but JP guys were obviously not sure how to do it, but I totally appreciate what they tried to do. It was a deep deep album with few interesting songs kinda Alone or Death. The production was pretty bad indeed. As far as I am concerned it was not fault of the record company guys did not allow Reckless to appear in Top Gun

@@davidknichal6629 When I put the Nostradamous album on my phone, I used this tracklist: 1. Dawn of Creation / Prophecy 2. Awakening / Revelations 3. Sands of Time / Pestilence and Plague 4. Death 5. Persecution 6. Exiled 7. Alone 8. Calm Before the Storm / Nostradamus 9. Future of Mankind This cuts the album down to 69½ minutes, and is far superior. Further, I believe the deluxe edition of Redeemer of Souls is a far better Priest double album (you may need to rearrange the tracklist).

@@MRB16th this one looks like a powerful list that could really work. Agree on all points

@@davidknichal6629 Thanks. I did have a hard time deciding to ultimately eliminate Conquest and Visions, but this tracklist gives a focused single disc album that keeps the main story intact.

Sad swings , Stained Class ( the first tour I saw them on ) Sin after Sin, Killing Machine( I’m British!) British Steel… then they got too metal after that so I stopped buying!
@retro_wanderluster99622 жыл бұрын
how can you get "too metal?" lol I can see if they changed to like black metal crap or something lol but Priest maintained their style throughout the years. Now I can see where you may think Painkiller is too heavy but I love it. I like a lot of hard rock myself that's not considered "heavy metal" like hair metal for example but to me it's relatable to classic metal.

@@retro_wanderluster9962 I heard Sad wings in 1976 and it blew my mind! I saw them 5 times from 78 but I guess I kind of …. Grew out of them? I never got as far as even hearing Painkiller tbh… shall I get my coat ?😖😆

@@ArtbyJoeH give it a listen you may enjoy it. I understand I have gotten burned out on a few bands myself. I love sabbath for example but kinda lost them in the 80s after Dio left for a while. I mean I wasn't alive at the time mostly but I meant their material.
