Jeff Stanfield & Andy Shaver are joined by waterbird ecologist, Josh Osborn. He currently conducts the aerial waterfowl survey at the Forbes Biological Station in Illinois.
The guys discuss Josh’s path to where he is today from working in a nuclear propulsion plant in the Navy to going back to school to work in wildlife. They look at the shift in migration that has taken place in much of the Mississippi Flyway, and Josh shares some of the science that goes into the aerial survey.

Pretty Cool that he was a crew member on the USS LOUISIANA, I rode the LOUISIANA a handful of times between 2005 and 2008 as part of CSS-17. It was a good boat and crew. Good interview and an interesting guy. The technology on conducting bird counts and the use of AI to identify species from a distance is rapidly evolving.
