I didn`t know Hosco had bought Big Island... but that may explain why they call the green, blue. In Japan, green and blue was considered the same thing, they were all blue. Green is a kinda modern color for Japaneses. One example that illustrates it are the traffic lights. In a few places they actually use blue lights but, mostly they`ll have red, yellow and green, although they still call it blue. It`s the same for fruits. If it`s green or unripe, they say it`s blue. By the way, that uke sounds amazing.

When Alex uses the f word, you have to take that instrument seriously! :) Seriously, thanks so much for your videos, mate - really appreciate your time and effort in helping us mortal folks learn to love ukes.

Yeh... I hindsight I wish I'd just edited it out like I do when I run out of good descriptive vocabulary in the SUS videos 😁

@@UkesWithAlex You shouldn’t! Shows your honesty and it makes it relatable to us common folk :) Now had you said the same thing about the Moon Bird tenor, I would have gotten it straightaway - I’m still on the fence :)
@UkesWithAlex3 жыл бұрын
The Moonbird is excellent but it's not really my thing on a personal level. It is hands down the most popular £1000-1300 uke ever made though and you only ever really see them being sold second hand because somebody is going for a more high end uke. If you are tempted by it over everything else available at that price then go with your gut. I just don't like cutaways on my own instruments. I actually think I'd like the moonbird if it was symmetrical.

@@UkesWithAlex Yeah, I went with the Koaloha KTM-10. I’m a fingerstyle jazz guitar player and I prefer warmer, darker tones. Occasionally, I do accompany people on pop/rock songs, so that’s why I’m considering it. That Flight carabao and the A10 maples also sound good. As I said, it’s such an overwhelming world, and I rely on experts like you to help make a decision. Thanks again!

The wood grain, curls, waves always catches my eyes first, aesthically it's not something I will gravitate to, but you have always been spot on with the sound and tone (you got it right on the Carabao 😉). and this one just sings to my ears beautifully. Another one on the wishlist Alex, thanks for the video!

Cedar and mango , WOW that should be great sounding . I want a baritone or bigger 23" scale .
@UkesWithAlex3 жыл бұрын
So I actually convinced Big Island to start doing some Baritones (normal 20.75" scale) but they keep going all shy on me about them... I would be really surprised if there wasn't an Uli-B model in 12-18 months 😊

I guess this has a flat fretboard? My slightly arthritic fingers are now enjoying a radiused fretboard, but I have always wanted a cedar-top tenor and this would be perfect, if only ... .
@UkesWithAlex3 жыл бұрын
The Pono Cedar models all have radius fingerboards at a similar price. Sadly Big Islands do not.

I normally use the Big Island. It used to be the Kanile'a SUS-T. I prefer the sound of the Big Island plugged in to.my other ukes.

Can you do videos on looping? How to take a song, play solo on it but also make the backing track with a looper. For instance, the song Europa by Santana.
@UkesWithAlex3 жыл бұрын
Not really my thing. Try ukulele Simon on Instagram who has made lots of videos about this that are brief but entertaining.
