I attended an American Psychiatric Association convention in Miami in 1976. There were 2 keynote speakers. The first was a neurologist from Oregon who presented evidence that ECT (shock treatment) caused permanent brain damage. The second speaker proudly bragged he administered over 3000 ECT treatments per year. I was lucky to get to the podium to ask why 80% of all ECT was given to women. His response was something like, "we exercise restraint with men because they must return to work on Mondays whereas women usually have to only remember where the pots and pans are..." A good friend of mine subsequently denounced that doctor on a radio show and was sued for defamation. Fortunately, my friend won the suit and now works full-time exposing psychiatric crimes.

40 years ago I was morbidly depressed because I was going through a divorce. I was put on all kinds of pharmacological crap. They had me half convinced that there was something wrong with me. I was going through a divorce! I was on a medication merry-go-round for about five years, and I finally said enough is enough I’m not taking this shit for another day. They told me I couldn’t do that, but I did and I’ve been fine for years. People aren’t depressed because of a chemical imbalance, people are depressed because they live depressing lives. I agree no other human can take nor cure any depression . It is a internal problem and what is mostly missing that there is spiritual dimension to our lives , after all we are Spirit ,Body and Soul . There are many different reason why people become depressed , sometimes there is hopelessness , illness or any other kind of loss . Drugs make the situation worse and the body suffers .
@disapphire11 ай бұрын
Thank you for saying this! We are spiritual beings at our core. Many take care of the physical and the mental bit what of the spiritual? This is why we suffer mentally and physically. It is a derangement from deep within the person that can be healed if they be honest about what ails people the most. Lack of community, love, peace, separation from nature. This is what’s ailing us.

Lack of spirituality in my humble opinion is a huge factor ... you are right . I have seen it in some family members who have no hope and live a miserable existence because they believe that there is no god which means they are freightened of death and live an empty existence full of fears. It does not mean that you have to belong to a man made religion ... but to see the wonder of the world and to understand that something is larger than us in its amazing magnificence ... and that is God !.
@isrberlinerin406311 ай бұрын
@@violettabicycletta331 I am absolutely against organized religion mostly made up by man-made doctrines . God is not a religion and he sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ to redeem all humanity by dying on the Cross of Calvary and to reconcile us to God the Father . God knows humans can't save them self , so now the living Savior and Lord Jesus Christ is always ready to forgive all our sins providing we sincerely repent .If we fail to repent and reject Gods plan of Salvation then our eternal soul is in grave peril . The Bible is clear there is a Heaven and a Hell and we have to decide while we yet alive where we want to spent eternity . Most people live in fear and they are trying to fill their empty lives with whatever the world has to offer and yet they remain empty . Only God can fill the void he created in us , nothing else will do . Be blessed and take care........

Many years ago people would be described by the medical community as ‘having a nervous breakdown’. This terminology implied that the problem was with the individuals inability to cope in society. It was something lacking in that person and not a problem created by the society in which they were trying to cope. As the condition became more prevalent and more people seemed to be ‘unable to cope’, indicating that it was a societal problem, they changed the terminology from ‘mental breakdown’ to ‘stressed out’. This terminology not only continues to point at the individual as having an inadequacy to function in society, it has them self identifying and testifying to others that their inability to cope has nothing to do with society but is something lacking in them.

'The whole industry of psychiatry needs to stop'. Couldn't agree with you more. It is an industry not a profession. Giving vulnerable people, like those with learning disabilities, drugs which are extremely harmful is rampant, and, in my opinion, criminal.

It is not disability of us but those who research on schizophrenia they are failures, maybe this disorder lies in what civilized say mumbo jumbo a witchcraft maybe there is substance in it necessarily not in present life but in previous lives he was affected by lethal devil worshippers and genetically he was born again n again with affliction having never been cured maybe that craft poisoned his blood or something negative in brain.Medivine is necessary and study of all topics without putting aside when in all these yrs when the cause is not know .

Yes indeed, what a mess this world is. The indoctrination has been extremely intense throughout the last century. It's refreshing to me whenever someone, like yourself, tells the truth that everyone needs to hear. Money has always been the controlling entity. The world needs a systems overhaul ASAP !

Congratulations for this video! Dr Peter corageously brought the most honest and truthful testimony I've heard in my life as a psychoterapist for 30 years. The industry of mental health in run by lab's money to the majority of psychiatrists and neurologists over the world. I totally agree with him on why doctors keep on prescribing drugs that do not work for the patients, on the contrary, only act on a symptom and bring up others.

Yes, and what about the legislation regarding compulsory treatment? I have been getting forced injections for over a decade, with the threat of imprisonment. And for what? Just because I asked for help when I was going through a breakup. I'm angry and scared all the time. It ruined my life. They're depraved antisocial monsters. They actually think pharmacological treatment is an alternative to brain surgery. It's one big ball of discrimination and hate.

From Buffalo, New York. I came across this video by mistake but found it very interesting. If I may Icd like to say something. There Oaxaca difference, a BIG Difference between the mind and the physical brain. The mind is the person sandwhich the brain is the physical tissue. Sometimes the chemicals in the brain get screwed up and then drugs may be needed. Now the mind is the soul of a person and as was stated in this post that's where the trama gets screwed up within the person and finding the root cause can be very helpful. The emotional can affect the physical and the other way around too. Now coming to the spiritual which many people will not even consider can affect the emotional which in turn can affect the physical. In Psalm 23 it states "He RESTORES my soul..." So this is how the spiritual can affect the emotional by the spiritual being in control instead of the soul being in control. But of course the spiritual bring in a good way in seeking Jesus Christ and not anything of the dark side.

I remember reading a pamphlet on mental health in Boots pharmacy in Britain, some 25 years ago; it said that ‘you may be offered a treatment called ECT, which is harmless’ - I did not think the risks were fatal to 1 in 1000.

All they did was dumb me down like the guy in ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOOS NEST after his lobotomy. The only thing that keeps me from blowing my brains out is staying really busy at work, eating right (keto or carnivore....back when i started it was called Atkins) and exercise.

@Peekaboo-Kitty11 ай бұрын
No. Alzheimers is caused by the accumulation of beta-amyloids in the Brain. Brain cell connections and the cells themselves degenerate and die, eventually destroying memory and other important mental functions. In other words, the Brain wears out just like everything else in the body does.

Psychiatrists and psychologists never fix the real reason people are depressed, and certainly never point out what the real reason is. If someone lost their job and has no money, that’s the reason. No need for drugs, and no reason for analyzing if your mom or dad spoiled you or was mean when you were young. Psychology professionals never deal in real life.

A solid true relationship by accepting Jesus Christ into your heart and life is what is needed as well as attending church and getting a bible and reading it. Getting involved with other people at church by serving and helping others is what is needed. If then the person is still "a mess" spiritually and mentally, with no let up, perhaps temporary medicine will help.
@RosellaHomecare3 ай бұрын
bonniekarplak6025, Please stop prescribing Jesus for every ill. The most toxic people (inclusive of church leaders)are very often found in churches. It takes a long time to deal with painful memories & lives that didn't go according to one's expectations. It may be helpful to look at genetic changes too & eat & supplement according to those to get better. It is a process.

Refreshing information. I have been a psychotherapist for 40 years. What I see the major problem for any kind of mental health issue is lack of connection and love. The foundation of human development is through early attachment. If an attachment is chaotic or avoidant or confusing for a young child. Their sense of validity goes out the window. I do believe that that does create chemical changes. If a person is in constant anxiety, they get dumped with cortisol which affects their brain and their functioning. I had a husband who had schizophrenia. He could not function without psychotropic medication‘s with them he could be a college teacher. It was a quicker fix than long-term therapy, but it did work. I have also worked with many people with psychosis, and they really had to have medication or they would be in the hospital or commit suicide. So it isn’t an all or nothing thing but medication’s are used for quick fixes rather than really looking at the cause of the problem, which is loneliness lack of self-esteem, which affects everything in a persons life. Thank you for this video. 8:28

@SurprisedAbyssinianCat-iu1zf11 ай бұрын
I think you're a bit too hard on the good Dr. It's a bit like asking a plumet to fix your fuse board. You need a good functional medical to sort your issues. A water fast might be a good place to start. Proper allergy food testing is definitely a place to start. And that is for most mental issues.
@penyarol8310 ай бұрын
What did he say about antipsychotics and ECT that was wrong?
@cynthiasarah428610 ай бұрын
Totally agree!!! Mine started with anxiety that became uncontrollable and the only way to stop the severe panic attacks from Truama.. is indeed tranquilizers and hypnotics... which leave you sleeping half the day or unable to focus... I heard adhd is not it's own disease it is a symptom of depression. Which is enhanced by the drugs
@sierraansley10 ай бұрын
I really appreciate what this doctor has to say. An economic perspective is that a lot of depression and some similar disorders has to do with spending large amounts of our time in environments (workplaces) that don't value about our wellbeing and are really just exploiting us, we are treated as expendable. An example is how Amazon warehouse workers are worked very hard and often get injured on the job, and the "solution" is to have free NSAIDS available. The point about industry profiteering is central to understanding why current psychiatric care is what it is. There is an important distinction to make though regarding "chemical imbalances"..this can refer to the idea that people with mental illness need to take a certain drug to "fix" the chemistry in their brain, and I agree that this is fundamentally incorrect and harmful in many cases, but there is a way in which it has truth to it. This is the growing evidence that many "psychiatric" conditions are psychological or behavioral symptoms of underlying physical disease processes or disorders. Low potassium levels can cause psychotic symptoms including delusions and hallucinations, panic attacks are exaggerated lactic acid response to alkalosis, schizophrenia can be the result of an auto-immune reaction triggered by gluten (estimated to be between 10 and 30%), and many cases of mental illness including bipolar and schizophrenia are caused by issues in brain metabolism that can be corrected by a ketogenic diet. There are also many cases of schizophrenia that are permanently resolved with good quality psychodynamic therapy as well. It seems that the psych med solution is the one that just doesn't work well.
