Good to see that the fruits are still edible. I am thinking that adding protection to the stem and over the roots might be of benefits if we are subjected to more severe cold spells leading up to spring next year, Glad to report that the cuttings you gave me are doing well in our conservatory with the use of an 80W tubular greenhouse heater in use overnight during the freeze.

I think I should have provided more protection than I did ... I didn't quite believe the forecast of -7 until it happened. You are very correct about protecting the stem & roots. I think this is vital for these plants during the coldest winter days. I like to mulch my trees with a straw mulch. Fortunately the trunks of my trees are given 'some' protection by walls. Glad your Tam cuttings are doing well ... Thank you so much for the Pineapple plant. Really appreciate that. I hope to collect it when I visit Joe over Christmas.

Those fruits still look really good considering they froze. Hopefully, the tree recovers, looks like it may lose a few branches, but overwise still looks pretty good 👍

I think the tree may survive Peter ... although, after filming this video I noticed that the tree was bleeding from various places. It was leaking a reddish watery substance. Have no idea what it is. and I think most of this fruit will go bad unless I use it in the next day ... maybe i'll try making jam tonight. 😋 You're so right though, considering the weather we've just had, it's not too bad. ... Within the periods of a few months I've experienced both the hottest day and coldest day in my entire life. lol

@@MoebiusUK Fingers crossed it recovers for you 🤞 My tamarillo cuttings are still safely protected inside. The jam sounds like a great way to make use of the fruits 😋 Yeah, it has been a very strange year weather-wise. We also had the highest temperature ever in my location (37°C), although not as high as what you got down there. Fortunately we didn't get the coldest temperature we've ever had, I think 2010, still holds that record for us (during my lifetime anyway). It think it got to around -10°C (possibly lower) that winter and several nights below -7°C, the cold lasted weeks. But this spell has been the coldest we've had since the beast from the east a few years ago.

Fortunate they seem to be a fresh fruit that survives 'refrigeration' without much ill affect. As everyone else said with any luck the main stem will survive if we dont get too many more freezes in January and February 🤞

I'm really hoping the warmer weather predicted next week will last the rest of winter 🤞 I would like to taste Loquat next season and the weather in the next few weeks is cruicial. 😂

Alas, it wasn't meant to be and it didnt make it. 😔 I'm disappointed but excited about its replacement and the many other interesting plants I will be growing in 2023. Thank you for watching my video and leaving a comment. I appreciate it.

Looks pretty sad but at least you have some nice ripe, edible fruit left.

Looks even worse now but I expect a full recovery. Really excited for the next season and introducing new plants to my garden and my KZbin channel. Thanks for watching and commenting. Means a lot.

Have you thought about growing the Hardy Tamarillo species? If you have IG, I can send you some info/links

Oh, I wasn't notified you left a comment. Thank you so much for stopping by. I did consider growing the hardy Tam but I really like the taste of these ones which I grew from the seed of store bought fruit. This winter was exceptionally cold so although very dissapointed it got hit, i'm kinda OK with it. This Tamarillo was hit worse than I thought. The freeze had entered the soft inner pulp of the tree and it got very mushy . I'll be pulling it out later today. Oh well, onto bigger and better things. I 'm already planning lots of improvements this year with many new plants and projects.
