I don't like Fiat, but I love the Spider. The new MX5 just look kinda weird, and that's one of the main reasons I didn't buy one. Spider ticks all the boxes though, so it didn't take much to sell me on it.

I've been in the market for one of these and was wondering what type of fuel you put in it. I know the owner manual states that the car should receive premium, but can take regular. I think the car has a knock sensor which changes the timing of the ignition caused by the difference in the fuel quality. Still, I would like to eliminate knocking altogether to preserve the engine.

Just purchased a 2017 124 abarth and will definitely seek someone who can slip a ATV 1752 turbo in. I would guess the labor for the transformation will be around another $600 to $1000??? Do I go to a tuner shop or an excellent regular shop??? I wouldn't want ti have the job done half-ass! Great video for a 70 year old man to see the speed potentials for the 124. Personally, I think the new Miata's look like plump jelly-beans. lol Nice watches by the way!!!

The fiat multiair and tjet engines are pretty reliable, its the gearboxes that are renowned for being shit, can also get a mean sound from the 1.4 engine - Grande T-Jet owner

Blake Swan aside from not having direct injection, the MultiAir 1.4 is quite modern. The hydraulic valve system is not antiquated by any stretch. If this was the T-Jet, I would be more inclined to agree

Edward Clark however not having DI is the equivalent to having irs vs leaf spring. It just takes alot more effect to get the same results to a superior design. Toyota really has it nailed with both port and direct injection. I will admit I'm being harsh on Fiat and agree with you. I just wish they had a little more power in the Abarth model.

Blake Swan lots of different engines have been making lots of power without direct injection for a long time. It is a nice power adder for sure but just not really an issue.

Fiat is new to the US market? Learn your history. You obviously don't know about the 20 odd years they were here in the 70s and 80s. That's why this is a 124 spider. it's a throw back to the old ones. I had a Pininfarina version and miss it.

My brand-new ‘69 spider ($3,600) needed major transmission work right after I took delivery (it wouldn’t go into 5th, which I discovered only after handing over the cheque - silly me, but I wanted it and it was the only red one available in Alberta, where I lived then). That said , it served me well on numerous long road trips until I was transferred to Ottawa in 1973. It was terrible in snow because of the weight bias and then the front clipers literally fell apart. Traded it for a more practical 128. Now Golf-ing but I do occasionally wish I had the 124 back and I do like the new one.

draginator6 on this car no. The factory FMIC is decent. It made good safe power with clean AFRs on just the turbo as well as turbo and a previous dyno tune.

These turbo 1.4's have proved to be pretty stout. The gearboxes are the issue in the 500's but these have NC Miata transmissions. It's a pretty good combo.

From what I've learned about my 500 Abarth. The engine is pretty damn durable and can take some serious boost. If you plan on modifying it for power... just be prepared to change a lot to get it running correctly without misfires. My Abarth was a lemon sadly. BCM failed twice replaced under warranty, PCM failed, spark plug tube seals leaked, power steering started going out, buttons on the dashboard broke, steering column broke and a bunch of other little issues.

As I recall, the 500 he had was 260 hp at the wheels. The 124 can't be much different ? So why beat on a 1.4L for 400 hp ? I think he'll get this up around 300 as well and then realize he really wants to shoot for 400 hp with the Alfa 4C ? Right off the bat the difference is base power 160 hp with the 1.4L to 237 HP with the 1.7L. 80 hp immediately without working for it, Alfa Romeo did all that off the showroom floor. Alfa claims the 4C is a 4.1ish 0-60 mph with 237 hp, not sure what the big turbo 500 does with 260 hp, but if it is anything like taking the 160 which is a flat 7 second 0-60 to a flat 5 seconds which I've seen others take a 250 HP Fiat 500 to, the 4C is going to annihilate even a 124 set up with 260 hp ? Stock, Mazda still keeps the crown for the Miata to be quicker at 6 seconds. the Fiata Abarth or otherwise is 6.3 or 6.7 seconds. I'm thinking 250 hp in that still would be around 4.5-5 seconds and again slower than the 4C off the showroom floor. The 4C is crazy, 237 hp and it has 0-60 times that you see with the 2017-18 Mustang & Camaro with 600+ hp.and only able to get a flat 4 second 0-60. So imagine the humiliation factor for the Mustang & Camaro with a 4C with 400 HP at the wheels, heck even 300-330 hp ?

It doesn't they're totally full of it and their software is often garbage. Have dyno tested it, pulled the car off was worried it was gonna blow there was so much surge. Put down 165whp/200wtq and varied by about 30lb-ft between some runs.

I prefer the looks of the non abarth models. wish they came with LSD and other abarth upgrades without the busy styling. The base models look more italian and classic IMO. Nicer looking then the miata but thats just subjective.

Edward Clark I am too lazy to own a black car but I think you made the right choice in getting monotone black which tones it down and makes the aggressive front bumper inlets blend better. If you could get all the goodies in the lower models would you have gone with black or the classic italian red or other color? I think I also like the very base model where the A pillar is body matched as apposed to silver. Im 50 so as i get older I seem to like subdued better. Great car though, when you get the power dialed in (hopefully not overpowered and somewhat linear) you will have a very cool ,unique, real " sports car". Much success with your endevour!

I have a regular 1752 in my 500 abarth, it cost me $1300 and all I had to do was send them my old turbo, they machined the new parts into it (I believe) and then it just bolts back on. Super simple!

I saw one for a 500 Abarth on eurocompulsions site but says you need a bunch of other stuff as well just to bolt it onto a 500, and I'm sure there are packaging differences on the 124 since its not mounted transverse.

The manifold just places the turbo over cylinder 2 instead of cylinder 3. The one is used in the 124 was the 1752 meant for the 500.

A proper mechanical watch is a beautifully engineered device that can last a century. If it's encased in wood though? And the bracelet is too? although it MAY have a mechanical movement, chances are it's a Chinese ETA copy... MAYBE they put in the popular & low cost but still decent Miyota (ie Citizen) auto? I wouldn't hold my breath thinking theres a Seiko ebauche in there. Either way, I can't imagine a movement that cost much more than a quartz movement, hence you're looking at something from Asia.

VR 46 Oh I totally agree, I want a fold-flat hardtop too and I’m a torque fan living in French Canada, so I’m debating an Abarth vs an NC hard top and upgrading the engine bits. I’m leaning NC but I like the looks of the Abarth better....etc etc. I assume Fiat is not moving enough of these to justify major tweaks in a new model or refresh but I hope I’m wrong. Here’s hoping !

Ok whats fast to yall the more i look at cars the more i realize to alot of people 0-60 in 7 sec is fast dude i had malibu that did 0-60 in 5.5 stock. I really dont get it. Im trying to get to 4.0 0-60 in any other car, but it only really seems possible with a v8 or a v6 with a turbo which is more expensive, that seems faster to me. Idk yall do yall i guess.
