Thanks for mentioning The Last Starfighter in this! I have incredibly vague memories of a movie as a kid. All I can remember is an arcade game and weird aliens. At the time I was so young that the aliens scared me enough to turn the movie off.

I watched one of your Welcome To The Basement(WTTB) videos a few days ago and you were talking about Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon, and on that same day I watched WTTB Black Xmas video then I watched the Black Xmas 1974 movie and documentary on the movie, in the Docu the director said he cast Edmond O'Brien as the cop, but had to recast him because he couldn't do the role. I had never heard of him until the ducu on Black Xmas and now this WTTB movie The Bigamist. That is so odd. Within 3 days of getting a name for it, it happened to me. I didn't know it was a Phenomenon with it's own name. I have had this happen to me a lot over the years, but never knew so many other people had it happen to them.

Craig, magnetism (specifically ferromagnetism) is a quantum mechanical phenomenon which arises due to the electronic structure of some materials. Electrons have a magnetic dipole moment because of their intrinsic angular momentum and that, coupled with how electrons are arranged based on quantum effects, produces a permanent magnetic field.

You should watch Ida Lupino’s last movie as director, The Trouble with Angels. It’s a 1966 Disney Teen Comedy starring Hayley Mills of The Parent Trap fame about Catholic School Girls who come into conflict with the strict Mother Superior. It would provide a nice contrast between it and this movie despite having the same director.

Thanks for covering my Last Starfighter Seen It. Disappointed that we won't see a full episode about it, but still fun to hear your thoughts. If you dig around the web, someone has actually created a fully functional copy of the game from the movie. A little tough to play, but dead-on accurate. Being a little kid at the time I saw it, that was the first time I ever saw Robert Preston and Dan O'Herlihy in anything. Now having seen them both in what most people would call "better" movies, I'm somewhat surprised either of them did it, but am glad they did as they stole the movie.

Hey, I love the show. It's the only reason I go on youtube anymore. I don't watch movies too often (I don't have the time) but you make me feel like I am. :) I did recently watch a little movie called Imaginaerum by Nightwish, though. It's a movie co-written by Tuomas Holopainen, the lead songwriter of the band Nightwish, and, of course, the band is featured in the movie. I love Nightwish and their music, so of course I loved their movie (even if it could get confusing at times), but I was wondering if I could get your opinions on it. If you need any incentive to watch the movie, Nightwish is a Finnish band, and although they sing in English and the movie is in English, it is a "kinda" Finnish movie.

Seems like you guys would've seen it, but I'd like to get your thoughts on To Kill A Mockingbird. I may be in the minority here, but honestly I thought the movie was kind of boring. I can handle movies with slow paces, but to me this movie just seemed to go on forever. That said, I don't think the movie is necessarily bad or terrible, it just didn't live up to the hype for me, so I only find it to be ok in the end.

I think the story that St Vincent tells only works if the acting and writing are spot on. And that movie was able to do it. Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy played their roles as very true to life and sincere. If McCarthy had to tried to act like a crazy person like she does in many of her movies, it would not have worked. A movie that tells a somewhat similar story and does not do it well is Parental Guidance. Billy Crystal plays an aging sports radio announcer who doesn't feel useful anymore. In the end of the movie, he helps his son overcome stuttering. But the way it's done is a very typical Hollywood trite ending.

stevemcquark True, but I wouldn't say the others were done "better". Wall Street, to me, is not that great of a film. Not a bad film in any regard, I just to regard it as highly as many others do. Wolf of Wall Street on the other hand is a much better film to me. In part because I know the things in it (at least in some way) actually happened to this guy. It's kind of like calling something Cliche if it created the Cliche.
