Hey man, beautiful tank and fish. But I think you have a Buccochromis nototaenia, not a rhodessi yellow. They look very similar in terms of color, but nototaenia stay smaller around 9-10 inch.

Hi! I appreciate the kind words, and thanks for watching! I'm fairly certain these are rhoadesii, though. These came from Dave's Rare Fish. Kind of the go-to vendor for Africans in the US. It'd be highly unusual for these to have been sold incorrectly. I'm also pretty familiar with the differences between the two. I agree they look very similar, though, and on video can be difficult to differentiate.

@Riffwaters No problem, man. I know they can be really confusing as juveniles. Even expert vendors can sometimes make mistakes when it comes to identifying juvenile cichlids cause of how similar they look. If it was juveniles, I would be confused too lol. But you have beautiful adults, so it was much easier to identify. The reason I'm saying is because I have experience keeping both cichlids, but more on rhodessi yellow. Rhodessi yellow will be much larger at 2 years, more in 11-12 inch range, and they have a little different head shape, with longer body and fins.

Agree with this, thought the same thing when I saw these guys. Definitely have the coloration and head shape of the Notos. Either way, beautiful fish

@@KLG805 Noto males have a red patch behind the gill plates. These fish do not. Noto females also don't have as much yellow as these females do. Similar looking fish and tough to tell via video. Appreciate the compliment on the tank!

Thank you. I feed a mix of Xtreme and Northfin pellets, Community and Cichlid formulas, along with, occasional Hikari vibra bites.
