@@Himmiefan, my diet and exercise were excellent even before menopause, and I still had issues. I made it through menopause on diet and supplements alone, but I still hadn’t slept well for 13 years. I could no longer function on a daily basis. I was afraid to even drive in fear I’d have an accident. At the age of 58 when I was in post menopause, I went on plant based hormones, and it was a lifesaver. I sleep so well now, and plus my blood pressure even came back down to where it used to be. I told him I would like to try that. He said it caused cancer. I asked him, "If I am replacing what my body was making, how is that dangerous?" He looked at me with a puzzled look and said, "I don't know." In our lives we have to make our own choices and hope they are the right ones. I also found it interesting that obecity can be linked to 13 different kinds of cancer but you don't hear the fear mongering about that. Why? I thought that at the age of 43 it was young to be without HRT. I have no idea what rewards I have from it, I am now 65. I had worried about my bones, I am small boned and was told that I was a candidate for osteporsis, my DEXA scan showed my bones were good. I hope the rest of me is as well underneath it all. This is just my story and anecdotal, but not many people talk about the suicidal ideation that can occur because of HRT, or the fact that women on HRT have a significantly higher rate of suicide. I certainly had never heard of it when I started it, and honestly, even if I had heard it, I never would have thought it would be one of my side effects. And my symptoms were so severe I was end of the end of my rope anyway. About 14 years ago at around 50, I was where you are now, when I started BHRT. I suffered many of the same symptoms as you and many more, since I was 38 years old. I had watched an Oprah episode on menopause, and did know most of my symptoms were related to the hormonal changes that can start in a woman's 30's. Knowing that didn't really help. I had researched HRT and knew of the risks and really didn't want to take it. I had white-knuckled it through a couple of very bad years until the hot flashes and migraines got so severe I couldn't' stand it anymore. I decided BHRT was a better way to go, but honestly I'm not sure how much better it really is, but the idea of it was safer, and made me feel better than taking HRT. What worked in the beginning for hot flashes and migraines, was no longer working 6 months in, and I was feeling like crap once again. And to make matters worse, along with the return of hot flashes & migraines, I had a severe episode of suicidal ideation. It started an hour after I took my pill (and I mention this because after researching, I learned my BHRT reached its peak in the bloodstream about an hour after ingestion). It was about that time (midnight) that every thought I had spiraled straight to hell. Luckily, as a trained psychologist, I realized it for what is was. I woke up my husband and told him he had to stay up with me because my thoughts were spinning out of control. In about 2 hours it went away. Went away almost as suddenly as it started. I can tell you, the drug induced episode is not something one can control or easily escape. It was the worst experience of my life. I used to cry just talking about it. And I know that it wasn't from "depression" because it was a "sudden onset" (as in instant on/off) and a complete 180 from my reality. After researching the issue I discovered that women on HRT have a much higher rate of suicide. Which was a real shocker since I had NEVER heard of that from any DR, nor during my own research. After the second episode I decided I had to get off of it. Because the drug induced episode is so sudden & severe, I wasn't 100% certain I would be able to get through it if happened again. After all, if it significantly increases the actual rate of suicide, who am I to ascertain if I can survive it? I had already experienced the side effect twice now, so it could easily happen again. I tried to ween off he BHRT but I quickly got a migraine that lasted 3 days, and I started taking the pills again. That's when I decided to investigate alternatives that I knew about but hadn't tried. I knew women who told me they eliminated their symptoms through diet and lifestyle changes, and admittedly it was the last thing I tried. Lifestyle changes worked much better than the BHRT for me and I wish I had started when I first experienced symptoms at the age of 38. After much research I chose the Paleo lifestyle, and I say lifestyle because it's not just a diet. There are so many changes that go into it that it's far beyond a diet. You have to change your entire mindset. You have to understand that you can actually control your health with the food you eat. Hormones are extremely influenced by what we eat. Paleo stopped all of my aches and pains and I easily dropped 50lbs in 3 months. My hot flashes and migraines that had returned even while on BHRT, started subsiding again, even while I slowly weened off of my BHRT over the first 30 days on Paleo. I also added Mindfullness Based Meditation that completely eliminated my anxiety attacks and most all of my generalized anxiety, while also improving my overall mindset as well. (even if the diet change is too difficult, I definitely recommend mediation) Paleo and intermittent fasting, (eating between noon and 7pm) cured my insomnia. I don't think Paleo alone did it, because it was when I started the intermittent fasting that my sleep just fixed itself. I think it could be about the blood sugar levels that occur at night if I eat too late. I was actually having bouts of sleeplessness that would last 36 hours! But since all of us are different what worked for me may not work for you. But, if you're considering BHRT why not try strict Paleo for two weeks first? If you can stick to KETO you could certainly do Paleo. I noticed changes in my health within 1 week. Then at about 4 months was a great change in mood and mindset. That being said, I have found it difficult to stick to Paleo. But for every day I manage to maintain a healthier diet I know it makes a difference, even if I don't feel it. I hope you find what works for you. I highly suggest doing a lot of your own research. What bothers me most about downplaying the extensive research on HRT is that DRs normally tout random, double blind studies, until they contradict what makes them money. HRT is a multi-billion dollar business annually. And it's certainly not without its risks. And since it stopped working for me anyway, I found I do better with lifestyle changes, I just wish I could maintain it all 24/7 😂

Great lecture Dr Boz, but I didn’t catch your making the point that there’s a big difference between bio identical progesterone and progestins (as were used in the WHI) Progesterone protects against cancer, while the progestins can promote cancer. Since bio identical estrogen is not much more expensive than horse estrogen, why take Premarin. I don’t know if it’s true, but I was told that oral estrogen (passing through the liver) changed the level of matrix metaloprotinase which broke loose plaques that had built up since menopause 10+ years prior. If there’s a long period of menopause, then it’s far preferable to give the estrogen topically or vaginally. I would appreciate your opinions, where I am right and where incorrect. Thx, Lew Van Osdel Lewis A Van Osdel III, MD FAsMA

This is an interesting bit of information I hadn't heard before reading your reply. The studies did indicate that taking HRT in later years , following a long absence, did result in health problems. But the mechanism was never identified. The theory you propose here sounds very reasonable. Thx!
I went through menopause naturally at 43 which is pretty young. In hormone tests it shows i have next to none in my system. In 2020 i was diagnosed with HER2 postive/ER-PR negative breast cancer and am still receiving targeted therapy Herceptin and Perjeta . At present app my scans are clear but i have mets on my skin on breast. I want to start Estradol cream because i am getting shnolls in my back st T10 and also i am so tiny 104 lbs my skin is severely dry everywhere not just my face. I literally feel my vagina has probably closed up from lack of use. I am married for 39 years and this is not loving or living. Do you think it would be ok for me to start the cream after 22 years of no period?

This is the case for all people with all conditions. What people do not realize until it is too late and they and or loved ones are dead is that America Healthcare systems are part of the opposite world. They have no intention of fixing anything. It is and will always be on you. Our healthcare is part of a Satanic ritual where they slowly harvest people with curable diseases, poisonous and lethal "medicine", insurance that covers nothing, no guarantees, ridiculed for doing your own research. They are designed to slowly take your money over the course of your life while you suffer. Back in the day there were countries with Zero Autism low and be hold they had no vaccinations. In 2007 and 2008, I read two books, "What Doctors Don't Tell You About Pre-Menopause" and "What Doctors Don't Tell You About Menopause." The first one hit me hard, making me recall my mother's experience and my fear of going through the same. My husband, a chiropractor in Las Vegas, and I often heard about women facing similar issues. Feeling misunderstood by my doctors, I delved into these books, becoming my own advocate. Thanks to my husband's support, I started progesterone at 48, transforming my life and marriage. Your energy and knowledge are appreciated, especially as a resource for my three daughters. Thank you for this information. The more medical professionals that share it the more mainstream it will become. The same people who scared the life out of women are still at it. I’ve been on bio HRT for 14 years since menopause at age 48. Even then I was being told it was a risk. Now at 63 I am being told I need to get off of it. Once again feeling afraid of the right thing to do. But I follow my instincts and just plain common sense. How would it make any sense to stop something that has enhanced my life since I was 13? Quality is more important to me than quantity at the end of the day. I watched my grandmother given “nerve medication” my whole life and saw what estrogen deprivation did to my mom. It was so sad. But now that I’m on HRT and interested in learning more, i’m understanding that most women really should be on it, And that there are so many other women my age that are being fed outdated medical information. I was recently dating a human doctor, who is an internist And he had no idea. He just cited old studies and tried to tell me it was going to cause breast cancer. and I feel like that’s where most doctors especially male doctors are with this. They just don’t know. Unbelievable! Huberman has a great video on HRT. I haven’t seen the one with him and Atta.

I'm 13 years post menopausal. During this time, I've had two Dr's reluctantly prescribe oral estradiol/progesterone. I had breakthrough vaginal spotting which was concerning for my Dr. and me, so I quit twice. I recently started the estrogen patch and micronized progesterone. The progesterone stabilized my mood. Much more than the previous form I took. Edited to add that early in my menopause journey, I experienced a bout vertigo and bilateral shoulder impingement, which can lead to frozen shoulder. Hearing that both of these painful conditions is related to menopause made me burst into tears. We don't have to suffer.

My mother contracted breast cancer after 18 months on Prempro - with no family history of breast cancer. I decided to take bio-identical hormones. Been on them about 12 years, no cancer or major side effects. Opting for Wiley Protocol. I did great on that protocol, though it's a hassle. I went off bio-identicals for 1.5 yrs and developed conditions - athersclerosis, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, pre-diabetes, all post-covid, which may have contributed. I'm back on bio-identical hormones and hope things improve.

After my second child, I had a molar pregnancy and went on patches as birth control...it helped my Von Wilebrands and I had lots less bleeding from cuts and periods. Fast forward 8 years and a crazy Dr. freaked out and took me off of it for fear of blood clots...I am in danger of bleeding out, not blood clots!!! (Should have called her boss...but didn't) I was finally able to get on the mini-pill, which did not help my bleeding as much...but better than nothing. I was told when I went thru menopause I would need to stop HRT... but maybe...the hot flashes wake me up 5-6 times a night, and I am back to pressure band aides...but not terrible. (Oh yeah the hemotologist wanted to just do a hysterectomy to control my vaginal bleeding...how's that going to help when I cut myself???? Stupidity reigns everywhere!!!!)

I started getting migraines during perimenopause, it also was a very stressful time, and I can still get them if pressure drops before a storm rolling in or accidentally consuming MSG, Soy, Nutrisweet in food while traveling. I have been scared to go on both estrogen and progesterone due to the migraines, as my Dr. went with progestin only. This video showed me if it stabilizes both hormones then that would be neuro protective and stop the wild fluxes? My Mom had obesity, and was a former smoker, but no cancer, however, she had 3 strokes and heart disease is what took her from me at 84. She had a hysterectomy and I don’t believe any HRT (My poor Mom), besides her other issues I can not help but wonder if that plummet in estrogen set her up for the compulsive eating and also let down the neuro protection and slowed down the regeneration of brain cells after that quick drop into menopause. I am going to be 54 not a smoker but overweight 5’2” 155, I just started estrodiol cream due to umm, due to the reasons women usually ask for that cream and, for years I had been on progesterone only (progestin) pill. This makes me wonder if I could switch to estrogen/progesterone pill and get my brain and health back a bit. Fibromyalgia hit since peri started, mood fluxes are awful, I struggle with fasting as I go hypoglycemic, insulin resistant, and have insomnia, also the loss of muscle has been terrible. Sadly, we are not well enough financially for me to come up from Palm Beach County. But I am so sad and tired of not being me. I have no idea where I am even in my journey due to being a caregiver of my Mom, mourning her and had been also caring for & homeschooling our adopted special needs son, and our biological daughter who had some special needs diagnosis but, has overcome much of it. Time for me is limited and getting to a my appointments is difficult as my son is always with me. Thank you for this video it gave me hope I might be able to work back to better health.

I am a huge proponent of HRT. I started hardcore perimenopause in my 40's was on oral HRT for over a year (my skin couldn't handle the patches) and it was fabulous, then I developed the very rare side effect of blood clots. Pulmonary embolisms in both lungs in March of 2023. Through lower carbs and no added sugar foods i've lost 20 lbs. I also take DHEA and that seems to help with some of the hormone balance. HRT is great but there can be complications.

Very rare according to whom. Blood clots from the steroids in HRT are not all that rare, nor is breast cancer.

My understanding is oral estrogen, being processed through the liver via the portal vein, can contribute to DVT. The patch doesn't pose the same risk.

Why is no one talking about Pregnonolone, the hormone precursor? I'm 73, never took HRT & have no known risk factors. Since I started Pregnononolone 3 wks ago, I now have energy & concentration...& my brain fog is gone. In AM, I started with 10 mg, slowly upped it to 20 mg, then 30 mg & dropped it back to 20 mg because I felt better at 20 mg. I'm currently doing 3 wks on, 1 wk off...but will consider 2 days on, 1 day off in the future. And I sleep like a baby now that I added bio-identical Progesterone cream 1 hr before bed. Thots?

Can you explain? It sounds like the same risks for me anyway if I don’t take it.
