You can also roll the benefits over if you sold a business into a new business, so you could reinvest the proceeds of a business you sold after 3 years into a new business, then sell the new business after 2 years to take advantage of the tax benefit.

and thats why rich in usa invest in most of the startups. most fail, but the ones that succeed, goes 1000x, making up for the loses and quite some more. then you get 10 mil tax deduction, and its not on just 1 company, it is per investment. for everything else over 10 mil, just borrow against that stock, instead of paying long term 15%-25% long term tax. imagine investing in 10 startups, 6 goes bust, 3 does ok, 1 goes to the moon. rich usually just invest 250k in each.
