I am a police trained driver, I like your attention to detail and your " defensive driving" system of instruction, all points that will benefit the young guy in future, he seems switched on and keen to learn which must be a bonus., I am in my seventies but occasionally book a Defensive Driving one day course just to keep me up to scratch, its easy to relax and get sloppy and you need someone like you to point out developing faults. Nice video.

i learned my self from driving experience defensive driving. my wife pass the test but she didn't have good knowledge about defensive driving, not all instructor teach this technique they only teach by the book and law. our road is similar to uk so watching this i can relate to it.

@@mbanyicksenghore8948 Its a system that teaches hazard recognition and anticipation and promotes awareness that is normally a "next advanced step" after passing your basic test, there are one day courses that are available online which will normally include skid pan training and other things that are not part of the basic test, well worth while in my opinion and usually a real eye-opener for someone who has passed the basic test and think that their driving is sufficient., Its a way of keeping everyone you come into contact with on the road, including yourself, and your passengers, much safer. I hope this helps.

He's keeping the clutch at the friction/biting point when waiting at a red light with the handbrake up. I understand why he's doing this, but perhaps if you explained to your students that a clutch plate is a consumable item that costs hundreds of pounds to replace, they might have an understanding of better driving techniques...? I'm actually surprised it didn't start burning/smelling! I drove professionally for many years and have taught several friends to drive, and always told them the following, (hopefully these tips can help someone on here): 1) the clutch is what connects/disconnects the wheels to the vehicle's engine, through the gearbox. If you're in gear with the clutch up and you stop, so will your engine, that's why we have neutral or why we have the option of pressing the clutch all the way in. 2) the clutch plate does wear down when it's slipping, such as when you're moving off from a stopped position, or when you're changing gears and don't time your clutch release well, or when you don't keep it fully pressed to the floor and you're in gear waiting at a red light. 3) Don't over-rev but don't under-rev either when moving off from a stop. 4) A flying instructor once told me this and it applies to clutches as well: Seduce it, don't r@p3 it! Lift it up too quickly when you're moving off from a standing stop and it's like kicking someone to make them move. Lift it up gently and a bit slowly, and it's like gently pushing someone to get them moving.

23:13 I find the main benefit of selecting first before completely at a stop is that it goes into gear easier and avoids the unlucky situation where sometimes you can't select first while stationary (without some finagling).

For anyone interested in what kind of finagling I'm referring to, it's basically nudging the gears around a bit until it'll let you select first. Usually... release clutch in neutral, get second, back to neutral, release clutch again, then try for first... is enough to do the job.

Brakes are for slowing not gears

Use brake to slowdown and gears and speed goes along 10mph 2nd gear and 20mph 3rd gear as speed goes up higher gears. As speed drop gears also drops according to the speed.

Plan your destination and memorise the road signs which is which also always be prepare if you want to change lane prepare to drive slowly look your left or right which lane you want to go, its ok to give a chance to a car first then you can change lane.
