Two up front died long before Guardiola. Let’s not pretend Guardiola completely redesigned football, when the real pioneers were people like Cruyff, Michels, Bielsa, Rangnick. Pep combined all these pioneers and put them in teams that included some of the best players to have ever played the game.

People still fond of Trent Alexander-Arnold have a short memory or have not been following the game long enough to know how it always ends. Years ago there was another player by the name of Michael Owen that fans absolutely adored. He was one of our own and we couldn't care less if he was injured or playing badly. Then we lost what affection we had for him when he let his contract run down and forced the club to sell him on the cheap. We got 25% of his then market value. That was the betrayal. After that I stopped caring what he did. What Trent Alexander Arnold is doing is worse. He has no excuse whatsoever to leave when the club is competing at the highest level. That too for "free". Circling back to the story of Michael Owen. Going to Real I could still feel indifferent. Ending up at United was and is unforgivable. Years at school arguing with gloating United fans but we had Owen! 10 years later he's there and the texts start flowing in. What are the chances of Trent (next Mr. Ballon Dor) of ending up the same.
@Thepuritan116 сағат бұрын
There's a difference though. Owen (and Mcmanaman) had both promised the fans that they would be staying. We had no insight into how the contract negotiations went. So it was a binary thing. They lied to us, and then fucked off. For less money and in Owen's case, less minutes. With the transfer committee it's a bit different. We know they have a track record of failing to agree market value contracts with players. From Wijnaldum onwards a string of players have left because the club didn't want to pay big wages. I expect Salah and Van Dijk to go too. Same reasons. So this doesn't feel like a matter of treachery. It feels like a matter of policy. I blame the club not him. When he leaves he's going to be on half a million a week, easy. But he could earn two-thirds of that here. Sentimentality only stretches so far. Reminds me of the Sterling sitch. We stole him from QPR when he was 17. Consistently underpaid him. Refused to pay him 50k a week the summer before he left because (quoting Brendon Rodgers) 'money isn't good for young players.' Then acted like it was a moral outrage when he left for a club that was actually willing to pay him. Loads of people will be pissed off when Trent leaves I'm sure. I'll just be sad. No hard feelings.
@BenjaminKeller16 сағат бұрын
Have you heard about contracts? Players have every right not to extend their contracts just as clubs have. Why would Trent extend his contract if he knows he wants to leave? Harry Kane anyone? He did exactly what you demand and in the end he had to go to Bayern because noone els would take him.
@LostGenerationn16 сағат бұрын
