I am so damn happy with how this beast is coming together, the stuff of childhood dreams and we are getting it done FAST!!!! To be finally going on this journey with the support of Wētā Workshop is just incredible. The summer weather, the old Rohan metal models, the sound of the battle of Helms Deep as I'm working, this is just PEAK nostalgia, and I cannot wait to give you all a finished Helms Deep video for Christmas

I know the 3D prints/plastic kits are super good but there's something so satisfying about seeing hand built foam stuff. That and the natural formations really pulls things together. One of my favourite videos for a long while. Can't wait for the batrep. It'd be so cool to do a big collaboration with Conquest creations for some massive battles
@ZorpazorpАй бұрын
Thanks man, yeah the big hybrid of materials is the way hey, makes it all so satisfying! Jakey is flying over in January for just that!

Once the ground texture and flock goes down, it's really going to pop. That's awesome news, too. Conquest are such a great channel. Can't wait for that video to come out!

@@Zorpazorp I think the way you're doing things is perfect! Repeatable terrain that can be done and be touched up with only some customization (vines, mud, etc) should be 3D printed. Other stuff that isn't repeatable should be custom made. Mixing the 2, you can turn a 1 man operation into a significant work force. 😊 Source: a 3D printing enthusiast of 10 years, who has on multiple occasions done the work of 5 people while studying in Uni and working a part time job 😂

This is by far the best video you have uploaded in recent times. Its great how you show off the biggature and movie references so the viewer is always aware of what is being built and can start to imagine the first sections of foam, understanding where in the bigger model it will sit. A good balance of handcrafted stuff and 3D models to keep things interesting. There isnt many lingering pauses and the completion is just stunning. When i thought it couldnt be topped you assembled the whole board with miniatures. Amazing work, keep it up! I'm so impressed by how this board is coming together.

Gosh I love it! I started at an early age due to my dad ordering the Lotr Tabletop magazines. When they showed how to make Helms Deep, we wanted to do this so Badly. We already recreated weathertop and balins Grave. As well es some Houses for Bree(still in my dads basement). We Both love the Trilogy and the books. I Even Play an Orc in German Larp, based on LOTR lore due to my love for Tolkiens world. Its sad that it never happened. My dad is still around but we got disconnected. I started painting Minis again, a few weeks ago and want to Build a huge pelenor Field diorama in the Future. He is also still working on some stuff but got detached to tabletop. I am so glad seeing the Mega Board Come to live. Its my childhood dream, that you are living Right now. Please keep up! Not only recreating the Locations, but also visiting them, as well as working with and visiting weta. That is a huge W! I love everything that you are doing and your ditcation to all This. You are making my Dream Come true! ❤️

Amazing! I´m looking forward to how you´re going to make the gorge from which the Deeping Stream emerges, and where the majority of the horses were kept, and to which Eomer and Gimli retreated in the book. In other words, please make it book accurate rather than screen accurate! :) Or maybe build two versions of the area behind the Deeping Wall. One book accurate and one screen accurate, and make them switchable.

Some random thoughts. On your pine wood frame my go to would be dowels and glue instead of screws. Mechanical joints are strong but with swelling and shrinking of the wood they can split the pine. Because of warping over time, I would switch from solid wood and opt for cabinet grade plywood (baltic birch if you can get it: as you want material without voids). Yes, it is more work to cut it down, the end result is going to be MUCH more stable. I love plaster cast rocks, I tend to use Dental plaster for such things though. In this instance though, Dental Plaster would be WAY too heavy. On such a massive build, to keep it light as possible, use foam rocks instead? I definitely like the fact that you magnetized components of this monster build. Those random thoughts in NO way take away from just how insanely cool this build is! Please keep it coming! Thank you. :)
@ZorpazorpАй бұрын
Mac some really baller advice there mate! I've already been looking at strenthening the underframe because it is a bit too susceptible to torsion, whichi might crack the plaster. Yeah I usually use dental plaster too, but for weight I went with cheaper stuff, I just can't stomach foam rocks for the lack of realism, but maybe some old school foil rocks? I'll have a looksy
