Or just sort through it and put 80% on eBay and see what the people that buy to actually use it do with it all. Seriously, it's actually a bit depressing. We had a show called Hoarders in the UK, it was about people that obsessively build up piles of stuff they never intend to use, to the point it takes over their homes, and this seems like another form of that addiction. This IS a fun video, and it’s so cool and interesting to see such a massive collection (reminds me of some crazy TTG yard sales I’ve been to in the past), but I can’t help but feel that this guy doesn’t need help building and painting his models. If he has the type of money to throw around on a collection that large (that he doesn’t even build or paint) he certainly could be spending some of it for commission paint jobs or something. 😅 It was more of a “feel-good” vibe when you helped someone who had lost their army before, I feel like helping someone who’s more needy is the thing to do. (Though I admit again, it was really entertaining to see that hobby room and everything in it.)

another example of why: Collecting Minis, Painting Minis and playing the games are 3 completely separate hobbies. This guy just happens to be heavy in all three.
@Therockypony3 күн бұрын
In my opinion, collecting boxes is only a "hobby" if you look for specific things, like say an OOP model from the 80s or one that you couldn't afford in your childhood but keeps haunting your dreams. Buying 3 boxes of each new major release is not collecting imho, it's hoarding. Especially if you know very well you'll never get to paint them. Buying one box because you want to have each set on display, ok. But buying 3 boxes for the sake of it? Definitely not a healthy behavior. Of course, to each their own and the lad seems to be doing good for himself. But I think we shouldn't normalize this type of behavior.

One of the things I'm most excited for is seeing you paint some of my favourite factions again, but to the colour scheme and style of the owner (like Tyranids 😄). Perfect excuse for lots of creative recolours haha! Actually may I make a suggestion please? - If the onwer has a specific style, would you and Lukas challenge each other to most closely replicate it? Perhaps a more interesting aim would be to have the most interesting version of the owners' style/who has "the best take on it". There is also so much potential for you to help them improve.

Then I got a better job and the buying part went up, but the playing time and build/painting suffered, and the friends were many states away so maybe once a year playing while on a vacation to their place. Now my collection of still in plastic wrapped boxes, still in the box, half built, or in primer is about 1/4 or 1/3 of the collection in this video; and that doesn’t include the board game wall I have. Do you have any issues using a humidifier right next to the painting area? Does it impact drying or tackiness?

This makes me feel a lot better about my own backlog! Good job on the army, hope you'll continue the series

Now this is a series! I realy had to rethink the way I paint to cut down time and help get my backlog down. I try and do everything in as few colors as possible. Less thinking, more painting!

Bro... Lukas gets sick a lot, I'm worried about him. Hope he's not pushing too hard. Feels like every 24 hour marathon you guys do he's man down, you as well! I genuinely thought his first *cough* video was a joke, like he's trying to get out of the project, but pneumonia is hardcore. Also pushing long hours here, look after yourselves

We've had a few bad influenzas run through our city like wildfire the lady year. He's been a bit unlucky:)

@@SquidmarMiniatures Fair enough, specially when you have kids at school, it's real xD Thanks for the inspiration bro, this was exactly what I needed before another 1am - 3am painting session xD

@christhevalentine he don't have kids, maybe that's the problem. He don't get the constant inferno of bacterias the rest of us have 🤣

Very nice job as always. I really apreciated when the other guys behind your project came in and helped. It was nice to see the other guys that are part of Squidmar. And I am also wishing Lukas to get better soon.

I'm a sucker for a pile of shame/backlog video. Love it. I'm not that bad (yet) but I've started to use JIRA to manage my backlog and set out a roadmap. It has helped me manage my spending as I have a full view of what I have.

Probably a good idea to sell some of it, perhaps the game you’re least interested in. Not easy but it’ll be therapeutic.

I LOVE the colour scheme! I was thinking of doing something similar with some tyranids based off of Imperfect Cell from DBZ. What a great inspiration, thank you!

I'll admit, I thought you were nuts when you said you weren't liking the peachy-colored flesh and wanted to switch to gray.. but, the gray looks pretty killer, too. (For the record, I absolutely love the peach.) Orange (my fav color) and green is my favorite color combo.. badass looking army, guys!

that style of flesh you did on the big tyranid with all the tentacles around it mouth, do you have a tutorial for it? or something similar? i have a Horticulous Slimux i was trying to convince myself to start but didnt have a reference i liked.

This guy is like me with books. The collecting is like a seperate hobby to the reading.
@sirrathersplendid48254 күн бұрын
So true. I used to buy only books that I needed for my academic research, literally hundreds a year. And I did read parts of most of them. Great to have them on the shelf within arms reach whenever I needed to go down any particular rabbit hole. Research is now mostly on hold, but I’m still buying tens of books each year, probably out of habit. Still like owning them, but most of them never get read. 🤦
@Tharrel3 күн бұрын
It’s interesting how there are 3 (at least) separate hobbies - collecting, painting and playing. I love painting and am always surprised at how many people play with gray minis. I will paint 2-3 kill teams for every one game I play.
