Or just sort through it and put 80% on eBay and see what the people that buy to actually use it do with it all. Seriously, it's actually a bit depressing. We had a show called Hoarders in the UK, it was about people that obsessively build up piles of stuff they never intend to use, to the point it takes over their homes, and this seems like another form of that addiction. And I am not having a go at the guy in the video, a lot of us have mild forms of this, but I don't know we should be rewarding it by becoming a free painting service🤣. I know the video was a good intention thing.

This IS a fun video, and it’s so cool and interesting to see such a massive collection (reminds me of some crazy TTG yard sales I’ve been to in the past), but I can’t help but feel that this guy doesn’t need help building and painting his models. If he has the type of money to throw around on a collection that large (that he doesn’t even build or paint) he certainly could be spending some of it for commission paint jobs or something. 😅 It was more of a “feel-good” vibe when you helped someone who had lost their army before, I feel like helping someone who’s more needy is the thing to do. (Though I admit again, it was really entertaining to see that hobby room and everything in it.)

The concept is not horrible, but I liked it better when you helped out people that really needed it, like the guy that was selling his army unwillingly to pay bills or the one you gifted to someone's dad that had to quit the hobby long ago. This dude has a problem with hoarding and that's it. He could spend less in plastic and more in painting comissions if he wanted.

Eh, not saying this didn't raise an eyebrow for me, but, I don't think it's bad. He seems to he doing well (healthy, house not a mess) and, as long as it doesn't get him some financial trouble, it seems fine? Yeah, he can do with less, for sure. But, as long as he's responsible with it, can't fault him. I think it's comparable with people collecting books/vinyl records/wine/whiskey etc. Etc. I feel this is the kind of thing that happens when you got too much disposable income.

@Therockypony 3 күн бұрын
In my opinion, collecting boxes is only a "hobby" if you look for specific things, like say an OOP model from the 80s or one that you couldn't afford in your childhood but keeps haunting your dreams. Buying 3 boxes of each new major release is not collecting imho, it's hoarding. Especially if you know very well you'll never get to paint them. Buying one box because you want to have each set on display, ok. But buying 3 boxes for the sake of it? Definitely not a healthy behavior. Of course, to each their own and the lad seems to be doing good for himself. But I think we shouldn't normalize this type of behavior.

This is quite heartwarming too, what a fun idea for a series. One of the things I'm most excited for is seeing you paint some of my favourite factions again, but to the colour scheme and style of the owner (like Tyranids 😄). Perfect excuse for lots of creative recolours haha! Actually may I make a suggestion please? - If the onwer has a specific style, would you and Lukas challenge each other to most closely replicate it? Perhaps a more interesting aim would be to have the most interesting version of the owners' style/who has "the best take on it". There is also so much potential for you to help them improve.

I had a fairly sizable collection of models at one point but sold all of it during a time when money was tight. Now I am older I try to limit my purchases to only what I am working on but recently I have allowed that to creep. My goal is to ensure I build and paint regularly. Set myself modest monthly targets of at least 1 unit a month. Does not always work but provided I come back to it I should get though it all eventually.

Great idea, I’ve slacked on my collection for many years now. I started in 3rd Ed 40K, when I didn’t have much money but friends I worked with at the time that got me into 40K. Then I got a better job and the buying part went up, but the playing time and build/painting suffered, and the friends were many states away so maybe once a year playing while on a vacation to their place. Now my collection of still in plastic wrapped boxes, still in the box, half built, or in primer is about 1/4 or 1/3 of the collection in this video; and that doesn’t include the board game wall I have. Basically I’ve seen game stores with less inventory lol. AoS Spearhead has given me a little bit of drive to try and get some small armies done, and hopefully Kill Team will do the same.

@@alkalineatheris6171- Didn’t say he was disappointed by the painting. It looked fantastic! Was just hoping he wasn’t disappointed by the experience of playing with his first army. I’ve met many folk who find the rules really terrible, and though still 40K mini collectors won’t go near the game.

Yeah I agree with you, this is just hoarding. Owning multiple of the same kit is just insane to me. Like yeah I get it if you’re filling out infantry but really you don’t need 4 dominion boxes etc… guy has an actually problem. Christ knows what we does for a living to support buying all this.

@rupertjones5197 Oh 100% man. Everyone has a back log of whatever hobby they are into models/video games etc etc but there's a huge difference between a backlog and a mental sickness. A "does this spark joy" style of video for warhammer models might be super Interesting and helpful for others. Just my opinion!

@@justtom2504 I’m on the same page as you man, this gentleman needs help. It’s kinda sad too because I know out there they’ll be someone who wants a specific kit from the 90s or whatever that they could never afford as a kid and more than likely this guy or others has got 5 of them gathering dust in a corner somewhere and he’d never sell them even if he found them. We all have a pile of shame but this is on another level!! Honestly I would love to know what we does for a living. Man must be minted

I'm a bit undecided on this video. On one hand, I love seeing all of the amazing kits and models, the history stored within the collection. On the other, the lack of organization or knowledge of what is there hurts. How many of the books have been read and how many are just decorations? How many games have been played, and how many just sit on the shelves? I also have a massive collection and backlog, but I know what I have, they're organized, I continue to paint them and get games in. I love seeing minis completed and ready for the table!

So true. I used to buy only books that I needed for my academic research, literally hundreds a year. And I did read parts of most of them. Great to have them on the shelf within arms reach whenever I needed to go down any particular rabbit hole. Research is now mostly on hold, but I’m still buying tens of books each year, probably out of habit. Still like owning them, but most of them never get read. 🤦
