When I was a kid, we didnt need bike lanes, so uh why do we now ?? Oh right, there have a been some irresponsible people and we ALL have to pay for their actions..... in the name of " public safety ".... I still bike all over in my late 50's.. bike lanes are a PAIN IN THE ASS, up the curb, down curb, on the road, off the road... at least in Ottawa they suck... who ever designed them... DOES NOT RIDE A BIKE... why would I want to bump my ass up and down curbs all over the place... pot holes and storm sewer grates are bad enough...

You're right. I've been a serious road cyclist for over 40 years now, and the bike lanes in my neighborhood in Toronto (Bloor West Village) look like they've been designed by someone who's never even heard of a bike, let alone ridden one. I've probably ridden over 200,000 kilometers on the road in my time, and I've never never felt more unsafe than I have trying to negotiate these insane bike lanes. Like you said, they weave on and off of the road, up and down curbs, over plastic ramps, and in and out from behind rows of parked cars. There are constantly people walking in the lanes, and crossing them without even looking, and garbage trucks, delivery drivers, and service vehicles constantly blocking them. I feel far safer riding in a lane of traffic than I do riding the gauntlet of these incredibly stupid and poorly planned bike lanes.

In Holland they are near perfect, separate from the cars & at crossings they are provided with their own traffic lights. I'm from the UK & lived in Holland about 25 yrs ago & i loved to cycle there cos i felt safe.

The most entitled group of whiners there ever was.

Drivers? Yeah those are pricks. They want all the space in the city for their cars and don't want to pay for it.

Yeah -- your family and your 'friend group' -- if you have one -- is nothing but a bunch of twats.
