The Bikeriders and The Wild One both explore facets of American bikeriding culture based on both truth and ficiton. From the performances Marlon Brando and Tom Hardy, the Hollister Riot, and Danny Lyon's photobook, the persona of the bikerider has mythologized itself through various depictions of masculinity. Malaise runs rampant in Jeff Nichols' film; I explore its relationship to counterculture when placed in a broader context.
