The creator of Law and Order took inspiration from early series of The Bill. The no nonsense fast paced gritty approach.

Yes! And also the episode about a Nigerian woman dying in a cab from a broken bag. Law and Order copied that.

Previous episode - DCI Meadows gets the whole CID together and requests that the male detectives smarten up and tie their ties properly. This episode - they're back to being scruffy again 😂

The Golden Era of The Bill, series 1-18. By the time Tom Chandler blew his brains out it was really over. Too much about the characters lives came into it and it tried to go cinematic.

That was when the series changed from "police drama" to "cop soap". Suddenly Sun Hill turned into a never ending parade of colleagues sleeping with each other, turning out to be evil/deranged, and the death card being seriously overplayed. Ratings went up but the credibility and realism that the show had prided itself on was now gone. When the series attempted to return to it roots, the damage was already done.

Happened far too often under Michael Chapman. He may have been an excellent EP but half of the characters written out in his reign had unexplained exits.

I know they must take dramatic license to keep the plot moving. But, c’mon, ladies and gentlemen, just the idea that law enforcement would do pluck a constable off the street and through her into a very dangerous undercover drug op, essentially because she’s black, is ludicrous! No dis toward Delia, could she find Nigeria on the map, does she know what’s going on there? She can’t speak any Nigerian! Frank says, don’t talk a lot. That’s helpful. In the real drug world of the day, that woman at the house would take one look at Delia and be suspicious. Hell, they’re paranoid to start with. The show can be so very good! And then it can be so very bad. That’s not really fair, considering the number of episodes they had to creat over more than two decades. But still.
