The Lazarus Heist is the story of notorious hackers the Lazarus Group, who have been breaking in all over the world, in all sorts of places - movie companies, banks, TV stations, even hospitals. They’re dangerous because they’re unpredictable. You never know where they’ll strike next, and they don’t seem to care about getting found out.
There are lots of cyber crime gangs, of course, but according to investigators, the Lazarus Group is different - they’re working for a nation-state, North Korea. Pyongyang has denied it's involved.
The Lazarus Heist podcast is presented by cybercrime investigative journalist Geoff White and veteran foreign correspondent and renowned North Korea expert Jean Lee.

After this biggest loss, the then governor still treated Bangladesh as a reputed Intellectual and patriot, and progressing-minded thinker. He was not been punished and even his name is not mentioned in any investigation that he has not done his job properly and hide it for more than 6 months, he only had to leave the position of governor. The whole world will know how incompetent he is, now a visiting professor at the University of Dhaka, everything is possible in Bangladesh even after losing a Billion !!!!

You guys did not lose 1 billion. But 80 million . 101 million was transferred . Rest were blocked by Feb in New York. 21 went srilanka and 80 to Phillipines. 21 from srilanka was recovered.

@nishu413 Yes, 950 was targeted, but srilankan money did not go because of spelling mistakes, and the rest of the money to the Philippines has been stopped of autobtrigger of sanctions for the name Jupitar We haven't gotten any pennies back from the Philippines, and the Bangladesh government did not share the investigation report with anyone. If you convert the USD to Bangladesh currency Taka then you'll understand how big even what we lost

Loss is a loss but out of 80 mill. 15 mil was recovered from Phillipines casino in 2019. RCBC has faced severe penalties. . Your governor fault was he did not inform his own govt for months and he was sacked for it . That punishable offence and your courts should decide on it. but calling him as unpatriot or non progressive is not founded. He failed as administrator and definately he is not cyber security expert. but it does not mean he may not be intellectual or a good economist. In a country where you have so few PPL filling that role. As a govt, You will have to pardon him as he may be needed in future. Your country is not US, Europe or even china and india . Where you can easily replace such talent. Or go after him in witch hunt for incompetence.

@nishu413 our the then governor is a recognised intellectual and now a professor emirates in University of Dhaka, has that much of intellect how to act in a critical situation rather than employing a personal contact to investigate, and living his life as businesses as usual, even when it's leaked he was in a official tour to India. Before being governor, he had huge experience in administrative function, and I believe I am still heading an NGO Sommonoy. If he doesn't know what the impact is, what happened, that's one thing, and knowing what he did is ... I stand by comment that Gyan Papi 's can not be forgiven. He is fortunate that inquiry will never see the light as his connection with the ruling party, but truth is already on the textbook of financial crime case study and book, and his role as governor is properly potrayes there

They used a lowly branch manager in the Philippines as a scapegoat. Considering the scapegoat's position, she cannot do it alone. Unfortunately for her, she was used and jailed now in the Philippines. However, no one who benefited from the heist had been prosecuted at least. Unbelievable.

So, the Swift System should install a "HOTLINE" that can contact any bank on the system that can monitor and act as a switchboard/liasion authority to get in touch with any bank authority to resolve problems, especially on long weekends..

Cannot believe the Reserve Bank Governor did not report this up the line to the Revenue Minister. I can understand not doing it in the first few days - weekend & it looked like it may've just been a 'glitch' & that the transfers could be reversed but once it became obvious that there were bigger forces in play & that it was obviously dodgy he should've alerted the Govt ministers at the very least. Cannot believe he was able to just 'walk away' without any sanctions against him.

Bangladesh is a more corrupt country in parts of the world. So, I believe that without any touch from Bangladesh Bank (BB) cannot make it. After all as a man of Bangladesh, I'm addressing all sectors that continue to have huge corruption every day. Such as getting services from personal healthcare, the police, the passport office, all licensing boards, land, local ministries offices in all parts of Bangladesh and so on. The great corruption impact hit our basic commodities and economics As a result, we cannot escape from this situation this is because if we strike for our basic commodities the present ruler beat us anyway such as through physical harassment, police cases etc.

Bangladesh bank system should be upgraded and it should be move to a secure area with restricted access on the building, as it deals with the capitals. The network system should be separated so passing from one computer to swift computer becomes impossible.

Maybe the lesson learned would be that the urgent requests for clarification (2:18) be done by phone to not less than two or more co-signatories of a bank on their mobile phones, for even when off-duty, in addition to through computer messages, especially for large sums. Hopefully the lesson is learnt.

The way the heist is portrayed here is inaccurate. In my knowledge; this height was just one item from the bunch. Very powerful transnational criminal syndicate carefully orchestrated this heist as part of a much bigger operation. Hopefully, in the near future, some portion of it will be revealed to public. watching it; crossed my mind that they influenced BBC to divert the ugly truth.
