The inevitability of a Roman Catholic numerical majority in Northern Ireland within the next thirty years is quite evident, but that doesn't necessarily signify that they want to be Irish, maybe they want just to be Northern Irish. The one thing I recognise within the Catholic community is their resolve to progress, succeed and make their lives better. The Catholic Community as a whole portray themselves as a confident and well educated society focused on successful future. Whereas the Unionists seem to portray themselves as an uneducated, regressive, anxious and a vitriolic society especially towards Roman Catholics as is quite evident above. Unionists why not stay in school, acquire higher level education degrees and then you will understand that the U.K in general doesn't want you, we don't want you, we don't want to give you anymore of our tax money. Isn't it strange that Northern Ireland is an integral part of the United Kingdom but small print applies. Did you know that our hard working healthcare professionals Nurses, Midwifes, Surgeons, Doctors are Paid far less than their United Kingdom colleagues, how can this be fair? They do the same exceptional job as their English counterparts why are they treated differently in terms of pay and conditions? No political party is interested in addressing this which is strange yet overpaid political representatives in every party are overpaid and heavily expensed for doing absolutely nothing. The conservative Government should back date all entitlements and treat our healthcare professionals in the same way as their counterparts.

As a person from northern Ireland it is a lot more complicated, the DUP have been in power for years, now on paper I would say I'm prodesant if I am going for a job, otherwise I am non religious. The dup have been in power because of the destruction what the troubles brought to northern Ireland, the amount of people that have died all because two communities want to fight for what they believe, From that terror came the promise from polictial parties saying that they want peace for both etc. Within sinn fien they were started by members of the ira who have since tried to make up for what they have done etc. Northern Ireland has a long history of what is happening now because it is a mixture of relgion and polictics which never have done anything for this country. Not everyone wants the same and that's fine, but I hate bonfires because to me that's not what the 11th or 12th are about, it has come a hateful and fear mongering place that disgusts and I am part of that community. I would love to see nothing more than to have the right to have a abortion but the law is so flawed due to the dup its sicking. In regards to gays getting married the only option they have is a civil cermoney, which is all they have at the minute. I don't want the dup in power any more, northen Ireland has come along way but its so backwards it is unreal. Truth is you wouldn't get these bonfires in the uk or Scotland.

I think Stacey Dooley does tackle some important issues in her documentaries, but don't think she quite grasps in this one the real depth of feelings and the history involved in the areas of Northern Ireland she visits. I live in England, so would confess to not knowing that either, but she seems to be a bit oblivious to why distrust between communities exists and the causation of that.

All they are good at is squandering taxpayers hard earned and coming up with new rules and regulations. The future of the North isn't green or orange its brown I come to this conclusion through basic maths of birth rates.. Sadly😔while we bicker among ourselves they will continue to break whatever social cohesion we have left.

Loyalists will sit and compare the republic of Ireland to a terrorist state and call the IRA terrorists (which they were) yet completely fail to recognise the atrocities that the British army committed and the murders done by loyalists terrorist groups. They will fail to recognise the troubles very much began due to unionist parties oppressing Irish Catholics. Denying them the right to vote, the right to housing, discriminating against them in regards to job hiring in the 1960’s etc and that’s not to mention the 800 years prior to that where Britain murdered, stole, starved, oppressed Irish people in their own land. The troubles and the conflict here isn’t one sided. Loyalists are just as guilty of murder and hate

100% right mate. They’ve done more to damage Britain than anyone during the last 12 years, austerity doesn’t discriminate against religion, but it does again class. In the end it’s not about religion. Terrorism never really is, it’s just a very convenient excuse for people. Like al-quieda/isis are dangerous terrorists. But most Muslims agree and are furious they were treated differently (mainly after 9/11 and 7/7), the IRA were terrorist but most Catholic people are against that sort of violence. I have grandparents of both religions, both have been discriminated against due to religion and both are peaceful, law abiding indidividuals and some of the nicest most loving people you will ever meet. Terrorism, is terrorism plain and simple. It’s a convenient excuse to blame it on a religion. Any religion. There are bad people in all countries, in all nations, in every corner of life, but they shouldn’t use religion as a driver as it causes issues to innocent religious people who just wish to believe and worship. An I’m an atheist, so to me again as long as it isn’t put on me. That poor young girl, I mean I’m not LGBT+ but I am a supporter an my best friend is etc as are many of my friends, colleagues etc. It’s not about religion, these people are born like it. Many religious people are LGBT themselves. Live and let live, love and let love. As far as I’m concerned, as long as nobody is pushing their beliefs onto me I’m more than happy if they want to be an adult and still believe in Santa tbh!

The sad thing is some of these Unionist people have stated that every thing they are doing is to wilfully repeat history. Non of them talked about a new, bright, positive and prosperous future for themselves nor for their children. This is why the Unionists are so different to their Catholic neighbours, to the Irish Republic and to main land Britain because we keep our history in library books for academics to study while the rest of us who live in the 21st century strive to accomplish prosperous and flourishing societies.

In my village, the bonfire isn't really a political thing, more of a social event... The bonfire is about a 3rd of the size that most people showed and people will either pitch in to buy wood for it, or just dump old furniture that they no longer want... There's no political posters, no flag burning... Just really a yearly tradition and an excuse to drink a bit and bump into some old friends from school you haven't talked to since last year, the original meaning is kinda lost now, at least where I'm from... I'm not really sure what party I'll vote for... I agree with Sinn Fein's policies, and don't have anything against people from Ireland, I'm very open-minded and a lot of what these people say is a bit... "Yikes" to me, but I also like being British and my mum was nearly killed in the troubles herself... I know the answer seems fairly obvious, but it's harder when you're the one who actually lives the experiences and has to make the choice...

That's a thoughtful comment. In the South nobody cares what denomination anyone is. Religion is dying out (thank god!). Alot of the Dublin middle & professional class are of Protestant backgrounds. The Protestant population woul still be a politically influential minority all Ireland wise. The majority of NI Protestants & moderate Unionists, a United Ireland would not take much adjustment. Anyone willing to take part is welcome, I mean the flag the lads are burning has as much orange as green. What is to be feared so much? You already have the right to Irish citizenship. You could maintain British citizenship if wanted... Even carry an old £5 in the pocket for a portrait of Lizzy 😉. It'll be grand shur! I lived in London for many years & most actual Brits (born in GB) have zero understanding & even less interest in the partition or history of Ireland, don't expect much long term enthusiasm for NI from Westminster. The bigots & flag burners would be better off heading to Scotland & getting on the electoral roll over there to try salvage the Union before it's completely disappeared.
