The problem with defense of the butcher bird's behavior is it applies to all birds. They're all ust wild animals doing what comes natural. But, if you gotta make a bird alignment chart, it's hard to paint something worse than "the one that skewers animals on spikes, dead and alive."

Growing up in a river valley area outside Seattle, I would regularly spot and hear both. Almost 100% of the time I would point out hearing a bald eagle near water and a red-tailed hawk away from water, people would think I was the messed up one. They'd insist the bald eagle was a gull (no gulls in sight) or the RTH was the bald eagle (no water in sight).

The only thing that doesn't sits right with me is that vultures are evil because they eat bones (something already dead to begin with) but the bird that puts impaled bodies like trophies just to eat them later is "neutral"
@eyespliced Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, but I can't trust this ranking. The Shrike, aka butcher bird wasn't one of the three "evil" birds and it really should have been. It may be the smallest, but it is still a bird of prey, and arguably the most brutal of them all.

The red backed shrike is called "Neuntöter" in german, which is literally "Nine Killer" - allegedly, the name comes from the belief that this bird would kill and stab nine prey items before eating any of them. Since you added the Shrike to the list, I could suggest a few non-raptors to the list that in my opinion make anything listed as evil here look angelic in comparison. 1. the Pelican. it will try to eat pretty much anything it thinks can fit into it's over-sized mouth and it always swallows em alive. 2.the Giant Petrel. in my opinion the nastiest bastard among birds, they love eating penguins and always start ripping into them trough the butt(and yes the penguin is very much alive at this point) just to make sure they can score more evil points....I mean why else would they eat their prey in such a horrible manner?

don´t forget that so many common passerine birds feed their young with mainly insects/invertebrates and of course that falcons are the sister group to parrots.
