I used to go looking for these pods when I lived in Iowa during the winter when they are easy to find once you find one you find more. I'd keep the eggsack attached to a part of the branch and keep them in the refrigerator until it's consistently above 50 degrees and then hatch them inside an evergreen bush secured with a segment of fishing line. By August you'd see dozens of adults and within a few years I was seeing numerous eggsacks in my property.

welcome back. but... 01:06 i am interested in the identity of him more than the whereabouts of the crown...! it is a larva of neuroptera or mecopteran? it is not a ladybug larva. i might seem that its outward features are very similar to those of a larva of diving-beetle... anyway, i have never seen "it" before!

@@planettootoo334 this larva has some characteristics: characteristic abdominal color scheme, and bifurcated tail at the tip of the abdomen. i do not even know if it is really a larva, but so i think that is probably larvae, because the legs are small compared to the body length. maybe it might seems that it is a larva of staphylinidae...?
