"Sweet Soul Revue" by Pizzicato Five was such a big hit in the Philippines back then, all thanks to the _Ranma 1/2_ and surprisingly, that song still hits the radio to this day (alongside with Go Go Dancer). For me (as someone who is a sucker to bossa nova and jazz music), Pizzicato Five is the reason why I got introduced to Shibuya Kei/Picopop genre and got me searching deeper into their discography.

I just finished the video now, and goddamn man... What an insane amount of work. The obscure blog declarations, the sample usage and comparisons. That was some excellent job, and it must have been a very difficult video to make. Congrats and thx. Also, I learnt that Ozawa Kenji and Cornelius, 2 artists that i've been listening for a while, were parts of the band that basically was the Shibuya Kei-pionneer... It's funny considering how often it crossed my mind that these 2 artists "could have produced music for Katamari games, somehow". Well, it's not the case. But considering Katamari is basically a SHibuya Kei anthology, i guess i wasn't that far from the truth with that thought lol. I really love how everything is "connected" to some extent in that musical indie japanese electro-pop-rock-bossa scene.

Haha this video was defs was one of the trickest to finish but im glad youve enjoyed it, I really appreciate the kind words ❤!! and i totally agree its quite crazy how niche but deep rooted the genre is across alot of japanese much and how much of a role its had on other media too, i swear during research on these vids i always find the unexpected lol

I’m a huge shibuya-kei fan and I’m so glad to see it being talked about more. It’s such a beautiful underrated genre. I recommend one shibuya-kei band called Pictogram Color, as they are extremely underrated and I love their self-titled album. However, there’s barely any info on them online. I hope your channel continues to grow!

Loving all your videos! Who knew the history of Shibuya-kei was so interesting. Have you thought of creating a discord server for people to gather and share information? Could be cool. Personally, I have a lot of unanswered questions about a bunch of artists and it might be helpful to have a place where an active community can gather to share and talk Shibuya-kei.❤️

I have been blindly listening to Japanese music for a long time now, but recently I started to dig deeper beyond whatever get tagged as "J-rock". Shibuya-kei is a genre that kept popping up and catching my attention, but eluded a clear definition. I actually came into it from a band called Serani Poji, as they contributed to this relatively obscure Dreamcast game called ROOMMANIA#203, and I'm a video game music nerd. I can't say the genre is my vibe in general, but it has a special taste that fills a certain niche and creates a unique mood. I watched all of your videos when I found your channel last week! Now I see there is much stories and a cultural background behind the genre, so I appreciate it more. Looking at this video, I can tell that your production skills are also getting sharper. This editing is snappy, and I was particularly impressed by the parallel musical analogies. It is obvious that this series comes from your honest love for the scene, and you're doing well by educating us about good music and where it comes from. Thank you for making these, and keep it up! I would gladly see your takes on more corners of Japanese stuff, or whatever you feel like.

Thank you so much for the kind words and support seriously, it goes a long way ❤️ Oh id love to tap into other Japanese genres and would love to hear any suggestions you may have especially VGM would be fun to deep dive into since a lot of shibuyakei kei and video games do go hand in hand like katamari, beat mania and so on :D Ps. Mannnnn the story of Serani Poji was super interesting to me too as I’m a big VGM fan too, been wanting to try out ROOMMANIA because of it haha!
