At 28:50 Ben says it is a French defense, but a French defense without c7=c5 being played looks very weird to me.

35:25 how can you have pawns and not be able to legally win?
@robsonneves6189
@robsonneves6189 Жыл бұрын
Imagine a position where white has pawns on a4, c4, e4 and g4, and black has pawns on a5, c5, e5 and g5. With only these pawns and the kings on the board this position is a draw because the kings are stuck on each side of the board since you can't legally put your king in check and there is no way to take/trade the pawns.

Around the 16-17 minute mark, when white takes the bishop on B5, what is stopping black from pushing the A pawn to a5 instead of recapturing the bishop? Doesn’t this trap the rook?
@leaderofcommunistchina1427
@leaderofcommunistchina1427 3 ай бұрын
Then its two bishops vs rook and the white king is closer to the pawns on b which is losing for black

@@gristlecassidy3406 Actually it's a very good question and a5 is only slightly worse than axb, says stockfish (although both are utterly lost). The easiest solution for a human is I think Bxb2 and now if black takes the rook you can play Ke2; and if black checks on D2 then the rook can escape. The computer likes Bb6 even better, but that's a LOT of tactics. Really worth playing this over with a board and pieces, making notes and then checking what you saw with the computer.
