A couple things I feel need to be clarified. Arians's offense is predicated on every receiver having a choice route on every play. No QB has played well in their first season in his system and even Brady struggled in it till he put his foot down and they went to the Patriots Max Protect offense. Jameis was expected to be re-signed by the Bucs till their front office was contacted by Brady's team. You don't turn down Brady for anyone, so I can't blame them for cutting him loose. Jameis wasn't re-signed for 2023, he was signed in 2022 on a two year deal. The guy catches way too much flak for his time in NO, as playing under Payton proved that he can play exceedingly well with the right coaching staff and offense. Payton doesn't get enough credit for his ability to adapt his offense to a QB's strengths. His winning record with all QBs not named Brees while with the Saints proves that.

Here is a little context regarding Winston's career: *From 2015-2018, the Bucs defense was tied for 1st in the league in points allowed in losses while the offense was 4th in points per game in losses. *The 2014 Bucs won 2 games and then go on to win 6 games in 2015. Then in 2016, they won 9 games. *In 2017, Winston was knocked out of 2 games and missed 3 due to an AC Sprain. The 11 games that Winston start and finished, the Bucs went 3-8, with with 5 of those losses being due to either the defense giving up a score with less than a minute left (3), the game going to OT and the opposing offense scores on first drive (1), and one where the kicker misses a game tying FG (1). *In 2018, he started UGLY, which got him benched. When Fitzpatrick eventually lost the job, Winston finished the last 7 1/2 games of the season as one of the most efficient QBs in the NFL. But it also exposed how bad their O-line and run game really was (anyone watching would have know that though) *In 2019, all people know is "30 interceptions" but what they don't know is special teams and defense lost them 4 games (Giants, Saints, Seahawks, and Falcons). The notion was the turnovers were why they didn't make the playoffs but anyone that watched that season would know the majority of Winston interceptions came in 4 games that season. We never talk about the other 12. Even with those turnovers, the 2019 Bucs should have been an 11+ win team. *Jameis issue as a Saint became health. When healthy, Jameis was 6-2 for us, while being one of the best QBs in terms of metrics that measure productivity. You also might want to look at little more into the Bucs 2020 season. To make it sound like all they did was change QBs is a little ingenuous, considering their first 2 draft picks were actual holes the team had years prior. They picked up Wirfs in the 1st round and Winfield Jr in the 2nd. Both All-Pro caliber players. Also, the Bucs struggled with Brady for most of the season. They didn't start winning consistently until they modified the offense for Brady. They ended up running more motion and play-action, which funny enough, Winston in better in PA. Some of the routes were also simplified, as Brady wasn't the best in terms of option routes at the top of a vertical route tree...lol. There is a lot of nuance when you look at Winston's career and honestly, could show who actually looks at games (as opposed to stats) and who knows ball.

Yeah I know that the bucs in 2019 weren’t JUST missing a good QB (Brady). They still had some problems but by 2020 Winston was already gone, so I didn’t feel the need to mention much of 2020 Bucs, except for the most obvious part - their Super Bowl Win. Funny how fast a team can go from 7-9 to champions in one offseason.

@@kebeannn971 Yeah....they added Winfield Jr, Wirfs, Gronk, AB, Lenny, and Succop. LOL. Then when Brady struggled in the offense and began to get frustrated, they modified the offense for him, so he couldn't even finish a season running the same offense as Winston. If the Bucs made those same changes in 2019, they are walking into the playoffs, because Winston is actually one of the best QBs at running play-action (yes, better than Brady). Most of 2019, the Bucs pass defense was trash (but that run defense was the truth and is what actually carried their rankings). The Bucs lost 4 games due to special teams and defense and they were out the playoff during their 4 game win streak. Most people blamed interceptions but at the most, interceptions probably lost them 4 games. There wouldn't even be "30 interceptions" if Matt Gay made 1 FG against the Falcons. It's these small details that were missed due to the narrative the media threw out there. "30-30" made for a great soundbite, but when you actually turn on tape, it tells the story.

Fun fact: Jamies is the only NFC South QB to throw a pick 6 against every NFC South team.

How does a guy who put up almost the same stat line as Peyton Manning after 5yrs and throws less picks than Manning do not get to the playoffs. They even have similar 3rd down conversion rate and redzone qb rating numbers. The answer is no run game, inconsistent coaching and defense, bad kicking and when you the only way you win is on the arm of the qb, the qb will take more risks. Manning had Edgerin James who led the league in rushing and didn't have to face a prime Brees, Cam and Ryan all on Super Bowl contending teams like Winston had to.

Things around him were inconsistent from his kicker, to TE OJ, to his left and right tackle play and even Evans would make great plays but then have easy drops. They were the most penalized team that year and Winston led them in rushing many games. Brady brought experience and demanded consistency. It help to add Wirfs and Succop.
@jahsoul3576 ай бұрын
You saying Succop means you know football...LOL. I said Succop was the real MVP and folks get confused. They lost so many games those 5 years due to kicking/special teams. Less games was loss due to Winston. I've said this before; we have QBs that we praise for 12 games and we have QBs that we demonize for 4 and this is driven by the media. Winston falls into the latter If folks actually look at the games/tape, they would see that in terms of consistency, he is as consistent as any other QB in the league. We just ignore Winston's 75% good to great games and make him the sum of the 25% bad games. Mahomes was trash a good chunk of his games this season. We blamed everybody but Mahomes...lol

Jameis Winston isn’t has bad as a QB as people like to say he is.
