They'd attack strangers who tried to put their fingers into the cage. Very intelligent, loyal and sociable. Rats are some of the best pets anyone could ever have! They're clean, quiet, very obedient if you take the time to train them. In fact, they're so clean and smart, some cat rescues have been known to keep them in cages with kittens. Kittens are extremely messy, so the rats will make sure they stay clean. It's also very cute watching them play and cuddle together!

When I was a kid, my mom saw a rat in the laundry room. She told my dad to catch it. All he did was go get a shotgun from his closet. He went into the laundry and shot it and also hit the dryer. My brother and I were in shock I guess. There was blood, and pieces of rat all over the place. My furious mother told him to go buy a new dryer that instant, clean the mess up himself and take my brother and I when you go to SEARS. I got the Ghostbusters Firehouse that day.

Fancy rats are delightful pets, are very intelligent and show empathy, and they make wonderful fur family for anyone looking for an engaging and social pet. One bit of advice? Always adopt in pairs or more. They need rattie companionship, being that they naturally live in extended family colonies. We (South Africa) had a rat problem with Norwegian Rats about 8 years ago. Being an insomniac I was the first in my home of 5 people to want to go mad hearing them scuttling in the roof at night. I called in a Pest Control company who fumigated the roof area but it continued. I sent my eldest son, who was now also hearing them in the roof, up to place rat poison in loads of places. We had a very big home. Still it didn't stop. I eventually spoke to a large house maintenance and supply company's staff member who said they had been informed of a manifestation of the Norwegian Rats and they required a different type of poison to normal rat poison, which they appeared to relish. Once again I sent my son into the roof but this time without water. Usual rats eat the poison, get thirst, drink the water and they die from burned stomachs. It was a couple of days later when I was sitting on my patio when I spotted a massive 30cm rat coming out from under the roof trusses, clearly needing to drink water and my swimming pool was close by. I am no flipping hard hearted woman, but I grabbed one of my other son's cricket bats and bludgeoned it and another which followed soon after, to death. Not even my 23 year old, at the time, son would go near it. It was huge. I felt like I had killed an animal, not a rodent. To get rid of them I placed them in a burner. Now, if only the bats responsible for the spread of covid had been dealt with in the same manner who knows, we could have avoided this epidemic or.... maybe not..

I walked to the Exxon station that the dumpster serve, and they acted as though I wasn't there. When I was a kid and my aunt lived in an old brownstone duplex, she use to hammer the tops of cans over their holes yet they would chew through them. In fact if rats can't gnaw on something their bottom teeth can curl into their heads.

I used to look after a farm that had a rat problem before the owners could move in. I was terrible at catching them so the property owners lent me a Jagdterrier named blue. That dog had that issue settled out in a week haha.

He never would have been a bad guy if the town fathers had just paid him like they promised. Moral of the story: stiff the rat catcher, lose your children.

The novel The Pied Piper by the Czech author Viktor Dyk was not among the publications mentioned. It is based on the original legend, but differs in many ways. I recommend reading it.

Hi there im from a little place called Sunderland in the UK. My father who recently passed worked as a rat catcher for the local council in the late 70s early 80s which he loved doing! I love watching your channel its so entertaining! Keep those vids coming 👍. A history of marijuana would be nice 😁

Could you perhaps do a video specifically for ferrets? Not just because I love ferrets, but from what I'm seen, they have a very interest history

Rats make some of the best pets. The ones I had were female fancy rats and there was never a hint of aggressive behavior towards the family. They'd attack strangers who tried to put their fingers into the cage. Very intelligent, loyal and sociable. I'd have a rat now for sure the only problem is the fact that they have such a short lifespan that broke my heart to see them pass away after 3-4 years.
