i have a theory, the producers and everyone in the show said it was a “real connection” between them two. What if when Scott revealed his feelings, John realized that he may feel some type of way back. He probably felt embarrassed or humiliated that he even felt like that (different time). I've noticed this too, and (as an army wife) when you are away from your families, you make a surrogate family, and you support and depend on these other men and women around you.
