Yaaaaaay! FINALLY a video from you I found totally perfect!! I can't stop watching your broadcasts.... but I swear I want to scream sometimes. You're obviously educated and humble and offer so much with your free submissions. And then there's the amount of time you put in!! But man!! Some of us out here are educated, too. And when it takes 20 minutes to find out i didn't learn anything.... OMG!!! I know you can't please everybody, and I'm not asking you to change for me. Mostly I just want to say: Quality all the way on this one!! Educational AND succinct. A true gem! No more mumbling, "yeah I watch Blue Ridge..." like I'm embarrassed! Now I'll be all "Did you check out his black beauty broadcast?" "You think black beauties are only found on Etsy?" "Check out my boy Sean over here. He'll get you straightened out..." NAILED IT!!! And you offered something nobody else did. Exceptional man. Exceptional. Thank you. I REALLY desired something like this from you.

Also as a person that has made wire from precious metals most have never heard of, a lot of times depending on the process a liquid graphite Lubricant is used (and its jet black) to reduce a peice of metal , say from 12mm down to 10mm , its basically reapplied every 2mm reduction as well. The reason for the Black beauties could be caused by the graphite lube not being properly cleaned off. If left on before the annealing process it will bake in to the surface. Hope this helped .

Woah! I recently acquire one of these black beauty.. mine is 1967.. I was wondering why my coin was looking like this.. I though it was strange and I kept wondering why my coin had that appearance.. I though perhaps it fell in some kind of red/brown pain.. but it looked normal front and back.. that's the reason why I came here to search and bumped into this black beauty.. I'm glad I bumped into this video.. it shortened my search.. thank you for sharing I appreciate you.

Shaun, I have and found in pocket change what I thought was a Black Beauty until you described the pitting. It is a 1983 P, has the P mint Mark. The pitting is only on the reverse, while the Obverse seems to maintain its luster & shine. Thank you my Brotha for the keen knowledge & as you know knowledge is power! Thank you for the Power Man!

Good luck in your change search I hope you come across the Real McCoy next time

Just a quick question for you: I have a 1964 nickel with the same characteristics as the always mentioned 1958-1959 B.B.s, but have never had confirmation that it is or isn't possible for a 1964 nickel to be a B.B.(??). Thank you Blueridge! I pretty much figured out the war time nickle I have is not a black beauty, however... it made me look through my stash and I found a '78 and a '71 that appear black, a '72 that was brown, an '84 that appears brown on the rear, and several transition nickles I think. I just came back to listen again to check on those. Anyway, THANK YOU!!!

I like the fact that you are passionate about coins. I have learned a lot from the content you produce. I made my livelihood working with metals and metallurgy is an important concept someone working with metals relies on consistently. All atoms are moving all the time. Annealing unlike welding doesn't completely break the metal down to its molten state like a weld puddle rather it is maintaining a specified temperature for a specified time and allowing the atoms to slowly return under controlled conditions to its normal state. I have a nickle that appears like half of it has been hot and the rest remained cool. The only possible way to achieve the effect on it in my learned opinion would be that part of it was exposed to heat while the rest of it remained in water thus the half gold tint half nickle color it displays. No I haven't had it graded lol its just a nickle I'm keeping only because it is different. Thanks Bud for putting your knowledge out there on the coins.

I have a whole 1954 Seitz Coin Case molded in transparent plastic collectors set (all three mints) with 1/2 dollars, quarters, dimes, nickels, & pennies. All three nickels are all black beauties, the Philadelphia and San Francisco mints being the darkest , the Denver minted is dark as well but not as dark. They are not full steps but they are fine specimens of how poorly the mints maintained there equipment. All the coins in the set have never been hand touched.

Hey I just want to say you are a plethora of knowledge and information that keeps me going. But I'm wondering if you have heard of anyone finding a more recent black beauty? I have two Nickels a 2002 and a 2006 that look like the black beauty

I have found a 1958 Jefferson Nickel after going through some coins we inherited but the one i found looks like when the coin was pressed and squeezed the collar to the size of a penny and pulled it up around the front face. Everything on it you can see perfectly and the back is the normal size. ????

This is awesome . I may have a one of a kind because I have a 1961-D that's a pretty nice coin. Had no idea all or most were Philadelphia minted.

I have a 1988 Philly Mint nickel that is a black beauty. There are a few small spots where the nickel coating is still retained. It's not pitted anywhere and still has luster. Would I be wasting my time getting it graded to sell or auction? Steps are still visible on the back.

I think I found one of those but thought someone just painted it or it came out of the ground so I didn't keep it.

I just stumbled into a 2006 "D" Jefferson nickel. Yes, Your absolutely correct. When you look at it. It looks amazing. The first image that popped up, to kind of describe its beauty. It's a clip from the movie Twilight. When Edward Expose himself to the sun. That's how my black beauty looks 😍.....

I bought a roll of BU 58s at an auction in South Attleboro back in the 80s. They all had that dark look, and I was disappointed with them.
