7:03 Coming from the goth of ODG, a basic nutshell explanation is that goth is a music based subculture based in the 1980s after the punk rock movement (post punk). We listen to bands like Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, sisters of mercy. The style varied from the people, but overall, a lot of traditional goths wear all black, fishnets, black lipstick, teased hair, and leather. The overall philosophy was to embrace the beauty in what was dark and weird (death, bats, blood, horror). Emo orginally came from the emotional hardcore punk scene, and in the 2000s gained popularity. It is also a music based subculture, and they listen to bands like sunny day real estate, My chemical romance, fall out boy, and pierce the veil. Their style coincides with a lot of 2000s trends like low waisted skinny jeans, and the side swept haircut. The philosophy of emo is that they are messed up emotionally and that nobody is around to help them or nobody understands them. but in todays context its all become saturated with media and culture behind it is basically gone. Its all about aesthetics nowadays, and thats why nobody really knows the difference lol

The thing with Goth and Emo that is the biggest misconception is that they're both just music-based subcultures and though they may seem similar at first, both are indeed, very different. Yes there is fashion associated with the scenes but as far as personality goes, that's just not a thing as you can meet all kinds of people within these scenes that have various personalities just like any other person. Anyway Goth came from 1970s post-punk music with Joy Division being the biggest influence of them all with their "Unknwon Pleasures" album. Technically the goth genre started in 1979 with the release of Bauhaus' "Bela Lugosi's Dead" song but honestly the music genre truly took off in the 80s when more bands started to take on and help define what would become the goth sound and aside from Bauhaus, The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees added to defining the goth sound but it was in 1985 with The Sisters of Mercy who became the cementer that defined what goth rock would become and more or less became the sound structure that defined goth of the 90s, 00s, and even today. @bats1312 pretty much got the stereotypical look down, black is the predominant color of preference with some DIY (Do it yourself customizing), teased hair, dark and silver eccentric and/or ornate jewelry. Meanwhile emo (also known as "emotive hardcore") became a thing in the mid 80s though it's usually agreed that it truly started in the 90s. It came from hardcore punk and post-hardcore with bands Rites of Spring and Embrace being the pioneers of the genre. The music was mostly popular in the underground during the 1990s but around the 2000s, that is when it went semi-mainstream because of things like MTV, Hot Topic and Warped Tour. Some notable bands like Sunny Day Real Estate, American Football, Taking Back Sunday, Mineral, and early Jimmy Eat World were some popular ones. Looks-wise, there really wasn't a clear stereotypical look for emo in the 90s and most of the musicians just looked like regular people in t-shirts, flannel shirts, jeans, and sneakers. Though by the 2000s, it did get a definable fashion stereotype which was the notable long shaggy with side swept fringe bangs hairstyle though this came with lots of controversy within the actual emo scene as it was more seen as a 2000s teenager fad influenced by the dominating mall culture back in that time and you don't really see many people sporting the fringe hair much at all these days, especially because most millennials who were into "mall emo" as teenagers are now in our 30s-40s and most have since ditched the fringe hair. FYI, Emo and Goth music greatly differ. Most Emo bands are a subgenre of punk that mainly existed in the late 90ties and early 2000 years and emo is more like punk music that isn't abrasive but made into having bouncy and fun party beats. One really talented and tight looking emo chick is Adhara from Mexico City. She is 27 although she looks 19 cuz how hawt she is. She puts out her own music w/o Jew producers or lowlife lanel moguls and inspires other younger girls to live out their dreams and raise hell.
