I used to be a Hebrew Israelite and towards the end of my faith when i finally got the balls to leave it behind i was told that God would punish me for turning my back on the truth and I would end up dead or miserable for the rest of my life. The Bible is for all people, not one group. People need to start reading their Bible, and stop listening to those so-call false prophets. Prophets were required in the Old Testament era, but they do not exist in the New Testament era. All are saved through Christ Jesus; John 3:16, John 10:10, Romans 5:1. After Jesus Christ died and ascended to be with our Lord God and Creator, Jesus left his Holy Spirit for us to have in our lives. Prophets are no longer required nor needed.

I used to believe the teachings of some Black Hebrew Israelite groups in high school until in college I really started researching more and more about the world and how complicated it is and then the claims became more and more ridiculous for me. It requires a very specific interpretation of the bible that is not always consistent and real world evidence is extremely lacking. In fact, evidence points to African Americans descending from West Africans and West-Central Africans, which is entirely different from middle east or even people from east or northeast Africa.

This. I was about to believe this too until I started doing my research and backing up bible and Torah study with historical fact and archeological discoveries published in scholarly articles and journals. The deeper you dig and the more you try to make BHI ideology make sense the more ridiculous it becomes. Then you add in the antisemitism that many are so quick to spout and it's not a good look. Most BHI won't take a DNA test either, because they know their bloodlines have about as much Jewish blood in them as my dog. That would expose them so they just point to Deuteronomy 28 but ignore the fact that after Jerusalem was sacked in 70 AD, the only place safe for Jews to flee to was to Alexandria Egypt and many more were indeed taken to Rome on ships as captives. It became illegal for Jewish people to live in Jerusalem and they were expelled from the city, many fleeing to desert fortresses like Masada and Macherus. It would have taken months and a great deal of money and effort for the Roman's to deport Jews on an overland route that was still mostly controlled by desert tribes (Nabateans). It makes sense that the Jews were deported in ships and to me that explains the verse in Deuteronomy 28. Also explains the slavery angle, I'm sure most BHI would not like to know that Rome even issued a coin depicting the fall of Judea as a weeping Jewish woman under a palm tree. No reference to the transatlantic slave trade at all. BHI are simply looking to fill a void in them that comes from generations of being marginalized, treated badly and as inferior. I understand why this movement exists but I can't condone it or the people who participate because of the antisemitism and how disrespectful, wrong and racist it is towards Jewish people. No different than cultural appropriation of African American culture and appearance.

I found this very interesting because one I'm a Hebrew who practice the way of Torah and believes in the New Testament properly called Brit Ha Kadasha, and all the names of people and places in the book properly translated. You left out half of the verse, and it says “ and there you will offer yourselves for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but there will be no buyer”. If you are using the first half saying that you will be brought back to Egypt in ships referring to the international slave trade then how are you offering yourselves for sale as a slave and there are no buyers? The point I’m making is that these “Black Israelites” think that if we’re not a part of their bloodline, others out of their tribe ought to be enslaved. That’s false. But we’re all bonded and enslaved by spiritual death and sin which is why all of us are headed for destruction, because we’ve broken God’s Law (aka the Torah). Jesus fulfilled the law, paid the fine for our sins, so that when we trust in what He did and believe in Him, we have salvation. The Gospel is the entire Bible. The inheritance is God Himself. But because this world is so fallen, Jesus was given to us as God in the flesh, who was the fulfillment of the Word and is in the Word always! Jesus is God’s promise to save the world, but many choose not to believe in Him, much less live for Him. The more you negate the Word, which these “Black Israelites” are discarding, are fulfilling a prophecy that lies in the last words of the Bible. In Revelation 22:18-19, it says “For I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the Book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.“ Know all Scripture you want, but the importance of our connection to God is a relationship. No works, possessions, knowledge, wisdom, or anything in this world will amount to your salvation, simply because you don’t pray by speaking with God. Read Matthew 7:21-23, it’ll change your heart about how God judges us on Judgment Day. The message of the Bible is that God Loves You, through and by His Son! Believe alone in Him!

As a former member of the Hebrew Israelite movement based in Harlem, the families in our group lived in Ohio. Spot on, the observation of slavery not being an honorable heritage has created a drive to re-imagine and re-explain the narrative. I would say our desire for justice gave narratives of reverse racism and explained how such horrendous suffering occurred without punishment. In our minds, there is no way any god would allow slavery to go unpunished. I recall hearing the stories of Jewish survivors of WW2 camps believing the same. Similarities of struggle was used to create the conspiracy theory and prove the narrative.

Allow me to say this in regards to what you said about how Black Hebrew Israelites teach about the law: What a lot of Black Hebrew Israelites seem to grossly & very wrongly misunderstand is that there was a difference between the different types of laws in the Law of Moses/Mosaic Law from the Old Testament, and not ALL of the different types of laws were meant to be permanent and eternal. There were ritualistic laws, ceremonial laws, civil and legal laws, as well as the moral laws that God gave to the Israelites and Jews of the Old Testament, and the Bible teaches that God specifically gave the moral laws and commandments in order to show people their sin and to show and demonstrate the wickedness and depravity of sin, and demonstrate its consequences and how much God hates sin (Romans 7:7-8). God specifically gave the ritualistic laws, ceremonial laws, and civil and legal laws, to govern the nation of Israel in the Old Testament, in order to distinguish them and keep them set apart so that he could set in motion and accomplish his plans for the salvation of the world through their history. Those laws were never meant to be permanent and eternal, because God was only using those as a foreshadowing of the New Covenant we have now. But the moral laws of Moses, that shows us what God considers to be sin and evil, and what God considers to be good, holy, righteous, that would be the laws most B.H.I.'s refer to that God gives to all people, Jew or Gentile, to obey IF they have the Holy Spirit of God within them motivating and inspiring them to keep and obey those laws, so that they can grow in a relationship with God and become close to God. But that's the key: they have to have the Holy Spirit within them to do that, because of our sinful flesh and sinful nature, no matter how hard we try, we can't just obey it on our own (Romans 3:23; Psalm 14:3; Romans 3:12; Isaiah 64:6). So that's where God's plans of grace, salvation, and justification come in. So God the Father had to wrap himself up and incarnate himself into human flesh, through his Son Jesus Christ (the Second Person of the Holy Trinity/Triune Godhead), Jesus Christ the Son being God in the flesh, and Jesus Christ had to become the mediator between God the Father and mankind/humankind while veiling some of his divinity in order to be both God and Man at the same time (1 Timothy 3:16; John 1:14; John 10:30; John 8:58; 1 Corinthians 8:6). And in doing so, Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life because he was both God and Man at the same time, and he accomplished God the Father's plan for salvation by allowing himself to die and sacrifice his life for the atonement, or to pay the price and debt for our sins. But he didn't just do this for the Jews/Israelites/Hebrews, the Bible teaches he did this on behalf of the whole world! And God raised Jesus from the dead, thus proving his power and victory over sin and death (1 Corinthians 15:1-8). That's the Gospel of Jesus Christ summed up in its most basic simplicity. But this is where the rebuttal to most of their beliefs comes in: people aren't automatically saved and justified from their sins just because of Jesus Christ dying and then rising from the dead. The only way salvation applies to you, becomes applicable to you, is the Holy Spirit has to move upon your heart, and when you allow the Holy Spirit to move upon your heart, he changes your desire and your state of mind for sin, and makes you want to repent of your sins, and then accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, so that he can regenerate your heart and mind, and make you a believer and follower of God through Christ Jesus. We can't do any of that on our own via our own righteousness, righteous deeds, or our works or deeds of the law, regardless of whether it's the ritualistic laws, ceremonial laws, civil and legal laws, or the moral laws. That has to be the Holy Spirit who does that for us and within us, so that God alone gets the glory and credit for our salvation, and Christ Jesus imputes His own righteousness onto us, and that's what saves us from our sins and justifies us from our sins. No amount of good behavior or righteousness or holiness or purity that we try to attain or strive to can do that for us. But then ONCE we are saved, meaning we're already saved, the Holy Spirit of God within us suppresses our sinful nature and our sinful flesh, and changes our desires to want to do what God wants us to do, and to want to be what God would want us to be. And that's where the responsibility to keep and obey the Moral Laws of God come from: because the Moral Laws of God that we obey for holiness and righteous living as Christian believers, helps us to strive to grow closer to God in our relationship with God, and grow further away from sin, and to help us to hate and avoid sin, and to become as close to God as we possibly can, the Holy Spirit being our Helper. That's what sanctifies us as Christian believers. But we still have our sinful flesh and sinful nature in us which keeps us from being perfect or sinless in this life. That's where God's grace comes in to keep us justified in salvation. And we don't lose our salvation just because we may fall short or stumble or sin, if we are indeed truly saved, we may lose our closeness and fellowship with God, but we don't lose our salvation. So the Holy Spirit intervenes to help us to grow in righteousness and holiness and in sanctification, as we continue to obey the Moral Laws of God to avoid sin and evil, and God's grace covers us in our weakness and when we fall short at any time after salvation, and to help us to get back on right road of obedience and righteousness if we do sin or fall short. But notice what I said, it's the Moral Laws of God that serve as our guidelines to help us in this, not the ritualistic laws, ceremonial laws, or civil and legal laws that Moses gave to the nation of Israel in the Old Testament. So to my Black Hebrew Israelite brothers and sisters, when we Christians teach that the Bible teaches that Jesus Christ fulfilled the law for us and that it no longer applies to us, what we're saying is, "the ritualistic laws, ceremonial laws, or civil and legal laws that Moses gave to the nation of Israel in the Old Testament" no longer apply to us because Christ fulfilled those laws and did away with them, and they're no longer necessary for us. But the Moral Laws of God, that govern our purity and our spiritual relationship with God, such as showing compassion and charity, avoiding fornication and adultery, avoiding lying and stealing, avoiding idolizing anything or anyone above God, how we pray and worship, dressing modestly, etc. etc., anything you can name along those lines, they help us to govern ourselves in accordance to our salvation and our relationship and fellowship with God. We don't do those things or obey those things to maintain or keep our salvation, we do those things because the Holy Spirit inspires us to do those things to grow closer to God after we're already saved and to grow in fellowship with God as his children. Now if somebody wants to keep the ritualistic laws, ceremonial laws, or civil and legal laws that Moses gave to the nation of Israel in the Old Testament because they feel it makes them more righteous, or they feel spiritually convicted to do so, or because they feel like they are one of the true modern day descendants of the Israelites from the Bible, they're more than welcome to do so individually, but the point is, they're not going to be saved or justified by it, and they're not supposed to teach others that they have to keep and obey those things to be saved and justified by it either, because that is false doctrine and adding works to the Gospel, and the Gospel is not works-based. And that's the error of the Black Hebrew Israelites, they teach these false doctrines based on adding humanistic interpretations and humanistic works to the Gospel, and they make it more about race and ethnicity and world history centered around us Black/African American people, more than they do about the grace and faith of the Gospel and they cause many people to stumble and fall into error because of it. And then in addition to that, because they get so caught up on the semantics of the Law in regards to race and ethnicity, and the history of American and European racism, that's why they often shut down anybody who disagrees with their theology.
