The Black Hills of South Dakota!

Welcome to the Black Hills! It is an island among the Great Plains! The rocks date back to 1.6 - 2.5 billion years, which would have been during the Precambrian period. Much of the bedrock is made up of pegmatite and granite, which are igneous rocks. Therefore, erosion rates at this location are much slower compared to the Badlands National Park. Uplift was responsible for how the park appeared today. Several separate indigenous tribes still hold the Black Hills very sacred.
