This isn't your average Black History Month conversation! Drs. Chika C. Daniels and Veronica Fynn Bruey accepted our invitation to share their personal thoughts on Black History Month, and WOW do they ever deliver.
2:20 | Prepare to be informed, educated, challenged, and inspired by the dynamic duo from Athabasca University, who share their personal experiences as immigrants to Canada and Black women in academia and industry.
1:05:25 | Who would have thought 67% of Alberta NDP leadership candidates (to this point) would be campaigning against a consumer carbon tax? Is anybody surprised to see one of them capitalize on the awkward relationship between the provincial and federal New Democrat parties? Ryan recaps the first couple weeks of the race to replace Rachel Notley.

1:16:50 | Garth's got a warning about "racism" accusations, Joe's sounding the drought alarm, Shannon's pissed at Air Canada, and Melanie has a message for Alberta's Premier. We fire up The Flamethrower presented by the Dairy Queens of Northwest Edmonton and Sherwood Park!

Being Italian in Canada was loaded with racism; affected my grandfather greatly. Canada interned Italian during the Second World War!! Racism is all over the world and it hurts. Canada has come far since WW2.

I have experience ignorance, racism, and bigotry on 4 continents. Including predominantly Hispanic, white, and black continents. It sounds like one guest is saying two Nigerians can’t have different perspectives? And a black and a white and an Asian MUST have different perspectives? race and ethnicity is the lens through which the guests look at the world. Is that really productive? Also white people didn’t invent slavery, weren’t the only enslavers, and were also enslaved. Every race has been on both sides. Singling out white people in this respect is discriminatory and either ignorant or selective.

I was recently talking to my friend from Nigeria about this saying we need more people from there and wondering why we bring people in from predominantly India. There seems to be a lot of very well educated medical professionals from Nigeria.

I'm not understanding what she's saying about EDI. Are they in the wrong positions because of EDI?

As a white person who would sooner view other people by their character and skill set first, it is not constructive these two well educated women to play victim and demand equity. Every individual as these two women are examples of, has opportunity and are in control of their own destiny. As such it is a bit confusing that 2 immigrants to canada who were obviously were given opportunity for education and success. Say that they are oppressed!

🎉 Decolonize Canada🎉 My dad had to sing the anthem to a ubiquitous portrait of Elizabeth, may monarchists accept that they're on the way out and never represented or did well by what these lands can offer. 33:00
