"When you're a guest in someone's home, it is best not to rearrange the furniture." ..... can you tell that to my mother please?

American here - This isn't my country's history, and they never taught this in any class I attended (primary, secondary, or university). Meaning no disrespect to my British friends, we were busy fighting for our independence around that time, so that dominates 18th century history here. I had heard the phrase "black hole of Calcutta," but I thought it was a pejorative, a description of Calcutta as a foul place, perhaps even because people with dark skin live there. (Kinda like "darkest Africa.") I had no idea it was an actual event. This tale is truly horrific, but I'm grateful for your admonition not to take the intellectually lazy approach and say they deserved it. I fully agree. If someone causes suffering, there is no law of nature or of goodness that they should also be made to suffer. Torture is torture, and no one deserves that. It heals nothing. This might not be the worst act of cruelty ever (I think of Ashurbanipal...II? was he the really nasty one? and of course the holocaust), but such comparisons only satisfy curiosity. What those people suffered was beyond my words. You tell a horror story that was real, and I've never heard it before. The emotions I'm feeling after hearing it are real and powerful (hence the long post). Thanks? In any case, I'm glad I now know this important chapter in history, so a true thank-you for that. These videos are very much worth listening to during the daytime. They help me sleep at night, but you are a gifted storyteller and teacher of history. Liked and subscribed.

Thankyou so much for taking the time to write such a detailed comment, and welcome to the channel. Our days of atrocities are far from over, generations from now someone will be making a video about some horrid event that is yet to come.
