Am I the only one that loves this Album?! Found out about The Black Keys when they were bringing out El Camino and loved it, then went and listened to all their other albums and loved them too, now people are saying they are "mainstream", when they don't even know what the word means. They aren't trying to get a wider audience, this style of music is something that we haven't heard in awhile. It's nice to have one of my favorite bands also have some easy listening music that you can just chill out and listen to, it's so nice and if you don't like it then don't listen to it! but don't just come onto KZbin and say you have been a fan for years but now because they have brought out 1 album that you don't like that you're just going to hate them. The Black Keys are playing Blues/Rock in an era where Pop and Techno are the only selection of new music coming out, you should be grateful that such a band like this has continued making music for their fans.

Becouse this is a price of moving somewhere else you already have been standing. I don`t like that album, I don`t have anything that will pull me to repeat any song. Maybe that Turn Blue is "nice". I don`t like that album because it makes the Black Keys another band who is deconstructing, making mixture of music styles already past. They at fact never played anything new - but I liked that fascination in blues, rock n roll. I can predict, next album will be nu metal or hip hop.

Honestly, I'm really starting to getting sick of people's petty concerns and perceptions of this album. I get that we love The Black Keys for their original blues influenced rock sound, but if they just made the same album over and over again they would have never come out onto the world stage and into the ears, hearts and minds of a much wider audience. Im glad that they are progressing and developing their musical style rather than stagnating and fading away into the past. They have done the hard yards of being in a relatively unknown garage rock band for so many years while most of you didn't even know of their existence. It would be fantastic if you all could, just for a minute or two, open your minds to something new and enjoy this music for what it is, look at it from a creative standpoint. Don't criticise their material so harshly, especially those of you who wish to live in the past. Thank you.

+MrJamsReviews There was a reason I was drawn to tbk 10 years ago, and it wasn't because they made music like this. It was because I loved (and still do) simple punch-you-in-your-face dirty fuzzy blues, and thats what the keys played. I understand experimenting and evolving as a band, but the keys have completely switched gears, and their music does not evoke the same kind of emotion it used to. Jack White moved away from the original sound of the Stripes, but the emotion is of his music is still the same. More and more people will like tbk, I just won't be one of them.

To everyone who is crapping themselves over this, I saw in an interview that they said they realised that they were now so popular that they could experiment and be themselves and people would still love them.
@shaggymullet10 жыл бұрын
Is that supposed to be like a burn, for lack of a better word, on the people who are "crapping" themselves over this? The reason that this is up there with some of the best Keys stuff is the experimental nature itself. Black Keys needed to make this type of record. I am sick of hearing the same thing over, and over, and over. On tons of new music from bands people are always leaving comments ripping on the new sound, and why they couldn't make this album sound like their last album, or first album. A record is a snapshot in time. A look into the lives and music of that artist at that particular moment of their lives. All you people that want to hear just regular ole Black Keys are trapped in time. Let's your ears evolve along with the music that you listen to and appreciate it! The same people hating on this particular song, because they are Black Keys "purists" are not purists. They are pussies, cause they are scared to step out of their little box in time where they are comfortable. Fuck you pussies!
@leonascimento247110 жыл бұрын
shaggymullet Every band that is remembered in music's history evolved and tried different sounds. The Stones have a lot of mediocre work thanks to it, but their best wouldn't come if they just locked themselves in what people wanted them to do. Bad music is necessary to reach good, and Turn Blue seems (at least for me) way better (and different) than El Camino.
@kurtisbrabeck527010 жыл бұрын
Haha shaggymullet no it was not supposed to be a "burn". It was just rather to explain to people who were getting upset over it that this was their intention to experiment and try new stuff. I totally agree with you - this is some of their best stuff. You can't beat the classic blues that was reflected in early albums like Heavy Soul and Thickfreakness but Turn Blue is filled with a world full of high expectations from me.
@kurtisbrabeck527010 жыл бұрын

This album is amazing, so is the black keys. Incredible how people can hate on this. I'm sorry but if you want to listen to catchy tunes or to the same melodies in every album, you're listen to the wrong kind of music. I don't get why everyone's hating on this album. It has some really good songs. This song is great, Fever has such a catchy synth line, Gotta Get Away is one of the coolest rock songs I've heard in ages (not that I've lived many), and the rest of the album is just great mellow rock with some synth thrown in. It's very different from their last album (which was their first take at making something commercial) and everything else before that (which was just the same thing for a hundred albums, it wasn't bad, but it was getting old). I like how they're trying to do something new. Apparently the album's also got some sort of story or concept to it, so I'll check into that eventually, but so far I'm really liking what I hear. When I read the comments putting it down I realized either people gave the song one listen and judged an entire album, or they just don't like this kind of music (which is fine, but that doesn't make it bad, for example I hate Rihanna, but I'd never say her music is bad, I can't judge something I don't like). Why am I writing this? Too many beers I guess.

For those saying that what The Black Keys are doing is so mainstream and their sound is so mainstream and all that jazz, a band needs to be able to broaden their sound to all different genres and know that their true fans, will stick with them no matter what. So all you bullshitters saying their new sound is too boring, or too funky, or anything else like that, isn't a real fan. I dig it ... could totally see myself and friends grilling out and drinking a few drinks listening to this smooth and relaxing ♡♥♡♥

Love this. Let's just put to bed an argument right here. Every band should change something every album. If they don't then their just sucking money out of you. I love the black keys for not coming out with any 2 records that sound the same.

well said. and I completely agree.

I don't disagree that I want bands to grow and do different things. But I just want these guys to slow down a little bit and put more care into their new work. This song is a little better, but "Fever" sounds like it was written in about 3 minutes while on the toilet. I expect more out of the Black Keys that cookie cutter pop songs. They are capable of producing a high-quality product, but they've been going too fast for the last 3 years and the quality has suffered greatly. It's a damn shame.

Well Dan and Pat record live in studio. They always have. It doesn't take that much time for them to cut a record because they own their own studio, and know how to jam. I fail to see how the couple years in between Attack&Release and Brothers, then the year in between brothers and El Camino showed any bad spots. Brothers is one of the best albums I've ever heard, and El Camino was fantastic.
@cleokraus10 жыл бұрын
agree with Levi Stutzman on this. All of their stuff is great, and in my opinion "Brothers" is their best, and though "El Camino" is my least favorite of the three I own, and of the five I've heard full-way through, yet it's still a pretty damn good record, at least 4/5 stars in my opinion.

What I love about The Black Keys is that I can hear one of their songs that I haven't heard before age know that it'll get better with every listen and that there are wonders in each second of the song that are yet to be explored

I've been listening to the Keys since Rubber Factory came out. This song is as good as anything they've done!

That's precisely what I wanted to say. My refusal to use the word 'dig' is what forced me to say longerwise.

It's kind of a follow up to Fever. I think i had top comment on that for a while with 'I can dig it'. Not sure why these tracks are getting so much hate. Change is good and it's a sweet sound!

Nice! I can imagine that it's going to be wild when the giant screen at the shows play that trippy video. Love the effect & colors. Sure hope I can get a gen admission/pit/floor ticket to some shows this tour. I have a vision & will travel. I've sported the "I brake for the Black Keys" bumper sticker on my car since last tour. I need a show... and I can't wait til Austin! I love this band!

***** I'm just amazed that all you Black Keys fans dropping album titles haven't mentioned the Blakroc album yet. That was a conceptual and collaborative work of art. That album was so outside their comfort zone and it still produced some real bangers. The Alternative Hip/Hop and Rap meets Blues composition of the album truly creates a vibe of its own. This new stuff, it's awesome but the sound isn't that different compared to where this band has gone before. Remember that people!

Same here man. At first it sounds so empty but once you get into the double digits on listens you hear all the layering danger mouse did on the production. Also you should learn the riff on guitar, it's so fucking simple but beautiful sounding, which Dan is a master at.

What's bothering me about some of the music criticism below is that it's a lot like saying thin mints are bad because they're not as good as your gourmet mint chocolate. Just because you think something is better than another thing, does not mean the less good thing is necessarily "bad," "deficient." Same with it being done before. If ten different companies repackage ten different kinds of thin mints, and they all taste good, then I'm not going to say the last one is bad because it's been "done before." I like The Thin Mints. And goddamn it, I'll support them.

Everyone needs to stop complaining that they don't sound enough like their old albums. How is a band supposed to stay relevant if they don't evolve their sound? We would be complaining that they aren't changing enough if it was the other way around. I'm a huge fan of all of their albums, and I'm really enjoying this change of pace. They have only released two singles, so reserve judgement for the whole album.
