My best friend passed away and we really loved cranking this song on a hot day after chilling at the lake all day. We always shared admiration for this song and considered it a musical masterpiece. As I was making my way through the 3 mile long line of people (yes I had to wait to see him)..... This song started playing as I entered the room and as I got to the casket the solo was playing. It was the most beautiful way to tell my best friend goodbye. To our favorite song at our favorite part. It’s almost like he told god to put on this fire track. Thank you for making this song so much more special. Can’t wait to rock out in heaven! Rest In Peace bro!

There is a song, every so often in a generation, that can’t be explained-as to the legend of its greatness…and this is one of those. There is no way to explain what it does to you. It’s a vibe-a feeling-an atmosphere of incredible sound.

These two are so in tune with so many genres that they have on their own created their own genre on their own, when you enjoy everything they have to offer. People hated on this album for how different it was from their previous albums. But, in my opinion it’s another perfect album from The Black Keys!
@kenny_dlc4 жыл бұрын
IMO this was one of their weakest overall. It’s a shame because 2 of their arguably-greatest songs ever (this song and In Our Prime) were on this album, as well as some jams like It’s Up To You Now and Waiting on Words. But to me, half the album felt like El Camino B-Sides and incomplete songs that could use a nice bridge or solo. Then there’s Bullet In The Brain which could’ve been totally re-worked to give a really psychedelic hard rock vibe like their BBC performance, but nope. Now Let’s Rock? That’s an album with little-to-no compromises.

Every now and then I find myself coming back to this song, hard to believe it’s been almost 10 years. I fell in love with this song when I first heard it, which was summer of 2015. It was the summer after I graduated high school, and I was driving home late at night on a weeknight after seeing some friends. I was just alone in my car, with the windows open and the radio on, alone on the road. It was a tough time because I had spent all second semester talking to this girl who I was so smitten with, she was at that time the most beautiful girl in the world to me, and by the end of the school year I had to finally accept that she didn’t wanna date me, she just wanted to keep me around so she could use me for emotional support when the guys she was actually dating would mistreat her. I was young and I experienced then, so I didn’t understand that you can’t convince someone to like you, and I didn’t understand that girls will do that; take a guy they have no interest in dating but keep him around with crumbs of attention so that they have someone to listen to them and validate them when the guys they actually date, the bad boys, cheat on them, ignore them, etc. Hearing this song on that drive home, not only is the instrumental so beautiful and haunting, but the lyrics spoke to me. From what I understand the song was written about the singer’s recent ex-wife, who cheated on him leading to a divorce. I related so much to what he’s saying to her in the song: that he feels bad for her because she’s never had a pure love, she’s always moving from man to man, leaving broken hearts in her path, and that she’ll be on his mind, whether due to missing her or pitying her, and wishing her well in her future relationships. I’m back here again to listen, the same exact KZbin video of the song, almost 10 years later, and I’m reminded of that drive home, of that time in my life. Life is still hard, now I have new women to be upset about, to miss, to wish wanted me like I wanted them, but it’s nice to think back about a woman who now I wouldn’t want, but at one time was all I wanted. I’m writing this comment so that I have something to revisit when I come back to this song, whenever that may be.

I’ve been a fan for the past 8 years for what it feels like to, but I just turned 34 and 4 months ago I turned 33. Time is an anomaly Edit : lost track of thought I originally had , because of the thought of time … I’m insanely relative to you on your experience that closely relates to this song .. and crazier that they have so many more songs that strike me just as hard , and with different approaches in sound .. they are the needle in the haystack that I hope everyone comes around to discover , they’ve always deserved way more than they ever received

I have to say, while I like the Black Keys, this song makes me want to dig deeper in to their catalog. Has a great throwback feel, that I just dont get much from today's music.
@carmineiuorio2638 Жыл бұрын
When this album got out back in 2015, i had already been a fan of the black keys for a few years . But I was 19 , still too immature to really get the caliber of the music inside. I got back to it a few years later, it must have 2019 or so, and i finally understood that was the best album of the black keys EVER released. They reached perfectly balanced, flawless music when everybody had already forgotten them. Catchy smash hit such as lonely boy resonate with the broader audience, but true rock fans... They know that the pure, real black keys melody springs out of this record. It gets better as time goes by.

Not to intrude on your personal business but I will say if there’s anything that can heal a broken heart, it is music, especially music as good as this. It may not feel whole now but know that time will cause certain feelings to pass and eventually you’ll find it hurts much less then you remember. Plus, you’ll find another guy who will make all that go away. Keep your head up and keep on rocking.

This is one of a few songs where I think the lyrics are secondary to the musical accompaniment when it comes to "interpreting the song". Specifically, I think the words just give a little context. The real "meaning" of the song is in the music. Notice the tension that builds throughout the song. This is the weight building. The music is expressing the weight of "love", the weight of a failed relationship you've tried for too long, in vein, to keep together, and the anger and frustration and everything else that comes with it.

@@mauzen_ I didn't really "try" to find meaning at all? He wrote it during a divorce, what I said is literally what the song is about. I just think he put the emphasis on the music rather than the lyrics. Or is that still too much for you?

I once had a friend that he was in love with me. I didn't want to accept it, I was in a relationship, I wanted him as my friend at the time. Our situation became quite complicated, confusing, and perplexing. It turns out that we are not talking anymore. It's been almost 2 years since we last talked. Music is my only way to remember our old times and communicate with him somehow. I remember him putting this song as a way to express his love to me. I couldn't understand it back then, I do now. I just hope he is doing fine.

Guys love very strongly and for a long time. I would imagine he still has strong feelings for you. If you want to reach out to him to be friends again I suggest you don't. Nothing kills a man more than being around a woman he loves who doesn't love him back. BUT, if you think you have the capacity to love him back then reach out! It will be like a movie and I'll get to be the catalyst. I'm positive he'll still want you unless he's gotten a girlfriend, in which case whoops.
