Countries used small boats in the shallow Caribbean, pirates needed faster boats to catch them, thus pirates mostly used sloops, too. An undergunned speedy 5th rate in the Caribbean could be a *beast* of a pirate ship

@@CiPhEr505 the thing about the Black Pearl is that she is supernaturally fast. Apart from the 5th Pirates of the Caribbean movie, which was basically a screw up because the writers directors didn't watch the previous four, the Black Pearl was originally a merchant ship. Jack Sparrow used to work for the East India Trading Company, and he was assigned to Sail the wicked wench. He grew to love the vessel. Until Cutler Beckett wanted him to put slaves on his ship. So when Jack freed the slaves, Beckett branded him a pirate and forced Jack to watch The Wicked wench burn at sea. Jack escaped and called on Davy Jones to raise the wicked wench from the depths. 13 years to be captain of the ship, in exchange for a hundred years of service. And out of a rare instance of pity, Jones granted Jack's wish that the wicked wench would be the fastest tall ship to ever Sail. It remained black from the Char and tar of the wicked wench's burning. So it was rechristened the Black Pearl. And it was Davy Jones who gave the Pearl its female angel figurehead, representing the Pearl's Speedy flight and the desire for flight/freedom. It was basically the pirate ship that pirates dream about. It was an East indiaman Galleon, so it had plenty of room for loot, and especially for cannons. But it was still incredibly fast. There was no compromise needed. This would give Pirates the perfect ability to catch up to Merchant vessels and threaten them with the Pearl's armament, while at the same time running away from the law and putting that armament to use to defend themselves. Little did Jones know, that Jack actually made that request so that when his 13 years was up, he would use the Pearl to escape the 100-year charge. Jack would have had plenty of time to plan his Rebellion against Jones, beginning with the use of cursed Aztec gold for immortality. But Barbosa stole the Pearl from him.

@@theblackpearl3880 finally someone who knows there history on the pearl i watched the 5th movie when it came out in theaters and after the movie I told my family movie was excellent in my opinion but the history behind the pearl is completely wrong and my sister knew i was right bc I've been obsessed with potc ever since I saw the first one so she said if you say its wrong I won't argue with you you know everything about that ship and its only bc I've read all the history behind it bc its something I love so thank you so much for posting this bc if no one else had i was about to but im glad someone actually knows there history on the pearl also proves there a true potc fan if they know.

@@dylanoneil9523 yeah, the failure of the fifth movie was a combination of a bunch of issues. They replaced the director and I think the writers from the previous four films. Coupled with the fact that Johnny Depp did not put in his best effort into this film, ( in part because he was suffering from his legal battle with Amber Heard, which was destroying his prospects in the court of public opinion even though there was a whole lot of evidence that could have proven that he was actually the victim) really detrimented the character of Captain Jack Sparrow and the writing over all. maybe we could have kept these new writers. But the real Johnny Depp, by that I mean the Johnny Depp of Pirates of the Caribbean 1 through 3, would have completely objected or spoken up about something being wrong with this character, since he was one of the Soul contributors to the character of Captain Jack Sparrow. Look it up in the production of the first movie. A lot of the ideas of the way Captain Jack Sparrow was supposed to be portrayed came from Johnny. We didn't have to worry about the 4th movie because the writers knew what they were doing. Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Men tell no Tales only had loose references and tie backs to the previous films. But that's just it, because everything in this movie takes what we have established from The Curse of the Black Pearl to on Stranger Tides, and completely contradicts them without any true explanation. Why is the silent Mary so fast? ' oh, because The Flying Dutchman was fast and they never really explained it'. Yeah, okay even I thought the writers shouldn't have inserted some random Exposition that came out of nowhere, about the speed of the Flying Dutchman in the second movie. But, why did the British warship and a freaking dinghy catch up to the Black Pearl too? How could jack get the compass from his old captain when he got it from Tia Dalma? ' oh well he could have lost it and had to get it back from Tia Dalma. We did show that our witch conveniently got the compass for Barbosa'. Yeah you did, so you can insert a convoluted catch to owning the compass that would allow Salazar to escape the Devil's Triangle, even though Jack has given away his compass or lost his Compass multiple times in the past. Why is Will Turner cursed? ' oh, because he is captain of the Flying Dutchman now, and when you're captain of the Flying Dutchman you have to be a fish person'. No, the rules were that as captain of the Flying Dutchman, if you stayed true to your duty by managing the realm of those who died at Sea, and giving some lost souls a second chance at life, for 10 years, in exchange for one day after each decade to spend on land, he wouldn't be cursed. The curse only comes if he breaks his duty. And at the very end of Pirates of the Caribbean at World's End, we see that Will Turner fulfilled his duty, and that Elizabeth Swann fulfilled her Duty as a loving faithful wife, making them the antithesis to Davy Jones and calypso. Which was the whole freaking point of their story arc. Like seriously, these writers botched the fifth film, and added in a pro feminist story arc for Carina Smith, thinking they can just insult our intelligence and give us Progressive ideology, to make box office Bank. It felt more like this movie was the actress for Carina Smith writing a fanfiction that would inject herself into a Pirates of the Caribbean story, just so she can have an adventure with Captain Jack. It didn't feel authentic or Genuine at all. It left more questions than answers. And it gave us no hope for a good sequel. they added so much convolution to the Pirates of the Caribbean universe, that I really cannot see where this story can go anymore. I could have written a better sequel to on Stranger Tides.
