As an outsider (which probably makes my opinion worthless), it’s my understanding St Patrick’s Saltire is one of the less contentious flags out there (it’s even on Belfast’s flag). What’s stopping the Northern Ireland Assembly from agreeing on that? You guys have a century worth of history all on your own now. Your own identity even if you still see enemies (and perhaps even that is too soft of a way to put it given the peace walls)in one another. Has to be a symbol to encapsulate all that history and I think St Patrick’s Cross (or Fitzgerald cross I guess) is the best of a bad situation I guess? Do I suck at reading the room? (Country?)

It was and I agree. If there's to be a united Ireland, needs to be a new flag, tricolour will be never accepted by unionists And with good reason. St Patrick's saltire would be a great flag to celebrate traditions and unify, rather than seperate. But that's just my two cents. The anthem as well will MOST DEFINITELY need to be amended. And this is all hypothetical of course, because we are no nearer to a united Ireland than life on Mars
