Both are good, but I find the 1980's version more scary. I also like how the blob was portrayed as a sadistic predator that would actually chase after you.

The original Blob was shot on location at Chester Springs, PA, Downingtown, PA and Phoenixville, PA. The father of a friend of mine (David Yeaworth), Irving Yeaworth Jr., was the film's director. He was also a Presbyterian minister and the majority of his other films (1956's The Flaming Teenage and 1966's Way Out) promoted Christianity as a way of life and a way to combat alcoholism and drug addiction.

In the 1958 version of The Blob, the creature looks more like Jell-O than an alien, and the acting throughout the film feels unnatural, with a lot of overacting. It's an old-school performance.

Every time I find a video about the Blob I ask this question. In a battle between the Blob (Russell's 1988 film) V.S. The Thing (Carpenter's 1982 film) What creature would win? The Blob with its power to dissolve/absorb or the Thing with its power of assimilation??
@miketurik94043 ай бұрын
The bigger question is where should the fight take place? Because the Thing was found in the Arctic and the Blob can’t go there because cold is the blob’s weakness
@zamu23 ай бұрын
Funny, I actually had this same thought. I can see it going one of two ways. 1) The Blob isn't really organic so it just ends up eating the Thing and whatever it assimilated with. 2) The Thing, assimilated as a person, works with other humans to freeze the Blob before continuing to assimilate the surviving humans. So kind of a, whoever wins we lose, sort of deal.

Just some trivia that was lost after the 1958 film. You will notice when the blob first crashes on earth, it is clear, until it attacks it's first victim. After it starts on the old mans arm, it gains a blood red tinge. This is because though the blob absorbs organic matter to increase its size, it is unable to digest the iron in animals blood. This was supposed to most likely be a key element into finding a weakness into destroying the blob, before choosing the cold as weakness. LX.

I personally loved the original up until Steve saw the doctor get eaten. Then about half the movie bored me to tears. The remake was gore effects almost from start to finish, until the military thought they could fight the Blob and took it head on. By then, it was too strong and chaos ensued in seconds. Both endings with freezing the Blob were a bit of a letdown (I personally liked the ending of Son of the Blob better), but it was a satisfying climax.
