First of all, it's wonderful to see family sticking together. Dream come true for any parent. Second, I live in NYC condo and curse every time I have to put in blocking or framing so I can mount something. God bless you for adding it all in ahead of time. :) PS: The take pictures w/ dimensions or take notes is spot on. You always think you'll remember it, but you won't.

Holy shit, screwing that board to the framing and marking it is genius. I always measure them all and write it all down then have to measure and cut every one. This is gonna save so much time. Thank you.

Fun fact: in Sweden we put OSB (or plywood 12 mm) on every interior wall before/under the drywall. Then you can mount stuff everyvehere.

Very good .. Blocking everywhere !! .. As a carpenter " Frame / Trim . it's nice to have something to mount to .. instead of rubber nailers .. That is why my next house I am building 1.75" O.C. .. I am getting to that phase whereas I need to backup and do all my blocking .. Most builders don't care .. It's all about Slap and Run ..

That was a cool idea where y’all screwed a board up and marked a ton of blocks. We normally use cutoff pieces from studs, rafters, joists, or form boards. Either way, great to have blocking. You guys do good work and provide quality entertainment.

Excellent. I am called to install ADA compliant hand holds and rails in many bathrooms. Often times there is no blocking. I have often thought about making the first four feet of wall height 1/2 plywood or something other than drywall. These hand rails aren't just for balance, they are used by people, often very large people, who are trying to get up off the floor. Just a rant. Great video. Thank you very much.

Really good stuff! I haven't really thought much about this! It does make sense if you build a house with mostly sheetrock to try to avoid anchors, and instead have something firm to mount to! Thanks!

Only block needed for skirt boards is blocks at skirt and base board junction. Hand rails and cabinets generally work out on studs but may require a block on one end. Blocking for mantles, TV and others typical but for pictures........wow . Lots of extra blocking on this job , surely a cost plus project , don't get be wrong , I love me some solid blocking and it's a great way to use up the scrap end cuts ,,but ........wow

Medicine cabinets, mirrors, and shower curtain rods/doors. If you put all of this in when you frame then the m&e trades will notch or go around them.

I have a question for you guys off the blocking topic. Do you guys use tankless hot water heaters? If so, how many do you use per house? We've started running multiple tankless hot water heaters for the last 4 or 5 years now. We use to run one or two large tankless units with a recirculating hot water system on a 5 gal tank per house. But our clients wanted hot water faster!! lol. So, now we usually run. 1 for the master bathroom 1 one for each guest bathroom. 1 for the kitchen 1 for the powder room and laundry room. We run both gas and electric depending on the area. Some people do not have or want gas. I was just curious on what type of hot water system you guys use. Thanks
@PerkinsBuilderBrothers
@PerkinsBuilderBrothers 5 жыл бұрын
Hey buddy... most of the houses we are building are in the 3000 square-foot size range. We’ve been able to get away with one large on-demand unit as long it is it has been gas powered. i’ve not been as Impressed with the electric ones (and almost always makes a 400 Amp service necessary). Most of the ones we use have a built-in recirculating system so we always run a re-Circ line to the master bath for faster hot water there. Surprisingly we actually do use some tank water heaters as well! Up front cost is definitely much lower on these so some clients want that.
@OffRoad-jh1do
@OffRoad-jh1do 5 жыл бұрын
@@PerkinsBuilderBrothers Thank you for your reply! I agree, gas does do a better job on the tankless. As far as electric service goes we typically run 400 amp to 800 amp worth of service to our houses. Power is typically not an issue for us. Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering what you guys did. I know you guys do high quality Custom Homes also. Thanks
@hkgonra
@hkgonra 4 жыл бұрын
@@OffRoad-jh1do Wow, I've never seen a home with 400 or 800 amp service. I live in a 3300 sq ft home and have been in many that size and they are all 200 amp. But they all also have gas heat and gas water heater.
@OffRoad-jh1do
@OffRoad-jh1do 4 жыл бұрын
@@hkgonra We work in the high end waterfront home market. 3,000- 20,000 sq feet homes. Most average houses can get away with a 200 amp service. We typically run (1) 200 amp service for outdoor services pool and spa equipment, lights, yard lights, entry gates etc... (1) 200 amp service for the dock lighting, boat lifts and shore power for any large vessels that need power. The main house will receive (2-4) 200 amp services. Smart homes require a lot of power as does larger homes. We also wire the garages with EV charging capacity for current or future use. Also a typical home we do has about 3-7 A/C units and all those tankless units. Thanks

Thank You for Another Great Video and Edit‼️ Let me think-HaHa- The man w/checkbook-Follow the Money 💵! We also put dead wood on top of double plate to secure sheetrock where ceiling joists run opposite! When I designed and built Fireplaces 🔥; usually sheetrock was already hung and finished (not good); so I always tore out so I could frame for Mantle and if going ceiling height block just about all way up for pictures or frame/ wire for flat screen 📺! Since liability was on me and my guarantee; made sure pre-fab units were installed to code(50% were not) and I could block where needed! If I built full Masonry and Natural Stone; code here changed to: all masonry from ground up(expensive but safe) If I built Artificial Stone; I would frame out around firebox and walls extra 6” to 8” to give depth and Natural Look! If folks really turned me loose- I have built recessed areas above mantle ( when no TV was desired) and used Fiber Optic (early LED) lighting mixed in w/stone and Stained Glass(removable) Designed by Friend and Homeowner! Always used corner rocks when building w/Artificial!

baseboard backing is redundant. bradnails through mdf and drywall is more than enough strength as a fastener. it shouldnt go anywhere after a bead of caulking.

Most of our builds have stained trim, so there is no caulking and no way to hide any gapping if trim doesn’t stay completely tight to the wall surface.
