Thomas Mann (1875 - 1955): "War is a cowardly escape from the problems of peace." Counting brigade formations does NOT provide an accurate measure of combat ready troops. Given AFU casualties I would believe AFU brigades hardly have fully manned battalions. Those 'soldiers' which do fill the ranks have replaced trained, skilled, experienced troops are barely inducted civilians that have NEVER wanted to fight this war. Fresh Russian units are properly trained and motivated with experienced officers and noncoms. It's called the principle of reciprocity in the intl. Law. By Law all these occupied and annexed territories are Ukraine and people there are Ukrainians, which would be then Ukrainians striking NATO with Russian weapons.

I dont think that Stoltenberg can give such a "permission". NATO has its statute and there must be a decision of the group of coutries to support such a decision. I think there is a lot of "pressure-propaganda" these days because of the failing of the "swiss peace conference" to get the BRICS on board. Just my interpetation though.

Villages are irrelevant. I have said even before they crossed the border, the main objective of the northern offensive is to force Ukraine to concentrate their forces there, where the Russians can bombard them from across the border. The most important thing is how man casualties the Russains can inflict before they fall back. And if the Ukrainians redeploy back to the east, the Russians are just going to apply pressure on Kharkiv again. This is a strategy designed to exploit the Ukrainian lack of manpower, and the Ukrainians even know it. That is why they have now passed the law that allows convicts to serve. The Ukrainians know that the northern offensive is a bait, but at the same time, they can not allow the Russians to advance on Kharkiv because that does not look good in the western media.

It's going to be hilarious when the convicts either run from fighting, defect to Russia in combat situations, or turn on their Ukrianian officers. Using convicts to supplement your front line forces is something that should NEVER be done. It worked for the Soviet Union because those prisoners didn't need to be told what the stakes were, and they were patriots. These guys that are being sent to the front lack the same conviction and loyalty to the government.

True, but you overlook the obvious. By invading in the north, the Russians have forced the Ukrainians to redeploy considerable numbers of troops away from the eastern front to bolster the northern front. This, has allowed Russia to make rapid advances all along the front line. The Russians can easily, conduct a fighting retreat back to where they began in the north, as the gains made elsewhere as a result, have already made the whole exercise worthwhile.

That’s typical of the Ukrop, to hide military equipment within civilian centers. That was the DAFI shopping mall. I’ve been there several times. Very nice upscale multi-level mall with an indoor ice skating rink. Was there in 2014, as I rented an apartment across the street about a kilometer away.

It's just like the way the Soviets fought in WWII. Historian David Glantz stated that Zhukov's strategy was to apply constant pressure against the Germans, and eventually the front line would start to collapse until the next defense belt was reached. Wash, rinse and repeat. In this type of attritional warfare, the side with the numerical advantage in arms and material would suffer fewer casualties and eventually win.

Thank you, Dima!!! Obviously, we can say anything about the Russian attack in the direction of Kharkov. But we must be careful about the conclusions. Why ?? Remember Artemovsk !! What happened there? From what I remember, the Ukrainians massed 22 military brigades in the defense of the area and the town. The result? A complete disaster for them!! I'm not saying that the Russians want the same thing about Kharkov, it's obvious that they don't have enough military troops for that. But the path works perfectly. Has had anyone the curiosity to count how much equipment and which equipment the Ukronassi lost just in these two weeks, just to stop the Russians??? I have read dozens of statements by the Ukrainians about how good they are, that they sent the best troops.. and then there were the videos made by the Russians with the systematic destruction of any kind of troops.. There is a flood of UFAB UMPK in the region, you can't come and claim that you are victorious, that you drove the Russians away, that you conquered localities and other aberrations when anything which moves there is subscribed to a drone, a shell or a UFAB. I am not in a position to explain the behavior of Ukrainians, but it is exactly the behavior of flies when they rush on the sweet and sticky paper that brings them death, in the end. I saw the video of the aftermath of the Epicenter store getting hit. There were secondary detonations, and the fire was engulfing the whole building within mere minutes (as opposed to just in the area where it was hit). Construction materials don’t burn that fast, and they define don’t detonate when they get in contact with fire. So most likely, the Russians are correct when they say that weapons and ammo were being stored there. Also, if I’m not mistaken, if they kept that shopping center opened to the public, that would be a war crime on the part of the Ukrainians.

In the forties there was a hungry painter, who somehow became the democratically elected dictator, he wasn't well versed in military tactics and strategies, but at least bravely fought in the WW 1. He decided what will happen in the fronts and overrode and ignored the professional generals opinions. Today an actor leads another country, he was also democratically elected, based on lies. He wasn't brave and never fought in a war, but he fired his generals if dared to contradict him. He's no longer elected, but want to be in charge forever.... The End...is near.

I am an armchair commander, I have no clue what I am talking about but from what I have seen Ukraine mans trenches with conscripts. If Russia attacks and somehow take the new position Ukraine sends elite brigades that hits HARD and often retakes the position manned by exhausted Russians that just captured it. I am under the impression that many of these Ukrainian elite shock brigades were sent north which is why it looks like the Russians are making progress everywhere else

50k troops is not enough to take Kharkiv. Germany used 200,000+ troops for Stalingrad and still lost.

Russia never intended to take Kharkiv. They want a decent buffer zone to keep long-range miasle launchers out of range of major cities. If the launchers want to get close, they're going to be spotted quicker and destroyed quicker. Ukriane said Russia was going to try and take Kharkiv to get a PR victory when anyone with commonsense could see that taking Kharkiv was NEVER a goal.

If there was "no defense", Russia would advance at this place, right? Ukraine will destroy any bridge, that they not longer use.
