dude the bomb hit accurate. it was about the explosion wave sweeping everything in the building from a side and destroying equipment(cars, generators and so on) placed around the building. leaving people in the cellar(civilians) alive. this is how you cause the most devastating explosion with such heavy bombs.

The Russians may not be hitting the buildings directly for two reasons. 1) If a Thermobaric warhead is used, those require Oxygen from the surrounding air, hitting off to one side may provide the thermobaric with adequate oxygen for complete combustion. 2) An analysis of the shockwave of a large detonation may have shown it is better to "collapse" the floors of a building if the explosion happens to one side instead of the middle.

FABS are not thermobaric but old conventional TNT Bombs from soviet and even second world war era but That is also on of the reason they are so powerful and feared. Russia May have Million of These old dumb Bombs in their storages and when attaching a cheap glide kit they become a very powerful yet cheap weapon. It's only twice more than fireball radius itself (but all in contact with the fireball will be shredded and shattered). Lethal fragmentation from an explosion can go as far as 300 meters. Mention that superheavy ordnance produce not too much shrapnel and usually kill with overpressure. Thermobaric bombs of the same weight produce x2.5 lethal overpressure area compared to ordinary HE ordnance, that's why russians use thermobaric weapons extensively

The main building's upper storeys looked pretty bombed out already, so I'd speculate that hitting the rooftop would have less effect. And we don't know if there's an underground shelter, say beneath the yard right where it hit. We can guess that prisoners pressed into service will be housed in crowded, guarded barracks to prevent escapes. Places like old schools and abandoned hospitals. The banderites who have these people at their ...disposal... may not care to maximize their survival by spreading them out.

The maximum payload was around 1.5 - 2 ton an a single pylon. They could not carry the 3 ton bomb. That requires a strategic bomber size of aircraft....like the Tu 22..or higher category... Just like the F15s are limited to ~2000 pounds (1 ton) on a single pylon...

3000 is a least precise of UMPK series. And detonator was set on "instant" instead of "delayed" (which is a strongly recommended setting for an ordnance this big). If the FAB had exploded a few meters underground, the seismic wave would have crumbled the foundation bed and the building would have collapsed.

It's designed to be delivered by the C-130 "Herc" which has a max speed of about 600 kph, making it virtually certain that any attempt to run a mission would be a suicide mission. The "Herc" is worth some $70 million, the bomb another $16 million plus the priceless value of a minimum of four flight crew...there is no conceivable target that would be worth that price. The MOAB is quite the useless weapon really, unless you have complete air dominance as in, zero air defence and interceptors, just as during its only operational use against that mountain in Afghanistan.

I also believe that with such a powerful explosion they meant to also make sure everything outside was destroyed as well and other buildings were absolutely affected by the blast destroying anyone trying to escape and also killing anyone in near by buildings that's my opinion, to me both bombs hit just on the side of each buildings basically the exact same distance away from the target seems to coincidental to me for them to just barely miss the center of the buildings....If the bomb hits directly I don't think the neighboring buildings or any UA personnel near by would be affected like they were with the blast hitting directly in the center of the target... the target is literally hollowed out and also positions outside the building were also destroyed the blast wave is able to travel further away by just hitting outside the main target....

Belarus / Ukraine border: over 600km.... Note in France Axis forces had to only make defenses for 400km, they spent years and it wasn't good enough. From ships landing is always harder. My point is mining and making proper defensive fortifications for 600km is almost impossible. Don't get me wrong there will be a few excavations, mines, but a professional army if attacking can get through those. For comparison the South and Eastern battle lines are 400km. Again to properly make foritfication for 600km long line it isn't about 50 Canadians. If it's a massive priority then it takes at least 6 months/year, and will need insane amount of resources. Resources needed to make newer and newer defensive lines on the East as Russians break through current ones. Under resource money is one thing, but not only. Literally workforce. Machines. etc.

I don't know if Russia fired the bomb to intentionally missed the building, but the bomb didn't hit the building directly. As a result, Ukrainians are saying this bomb is no problem, because it's not accurate it missed. But, if you have a closer look, the building is completely cleared, the shockwaves blew through that building ripping it inside from end to end, and from floor to roof. Nobody want to be in that building, even if the bomb missed it. Once Russian forces reached there, the Russian forces can also use this building as a level of protection from Ukrainians kamikaze drones. So deliberately firing the bomb to miss some buildings, with the intentions to blow them out, rather than to blow them up, in some instances, this might be a better idea after all.

I was looking closely to the Blast wave off the FAB-3000 bomb. Just by looking at the blast wave and rewinding it, it looks to be over 500mph as it leaves screen in a few seconds. I think the reason this bomb is so effective is most people would die from the 500+mph blast wave by your brain getting crushed by pressure? On top of that the bomb itself has a multiple thousand pound payload as well? It says FAB 3000 is 6 thousand lbs or more depending on glide unit and other modifications? Dude i looked at pictures the bomb is the size of a small car! Thats is really big! You dont want to be anywhere near that when it goes off, it says Its got a huge blast radius as well. Shooting shrapnel fragments a whole city block 4,000 feet in each direction with one go. Im not surprised they are scared of it. Thing took out that whole complex in one shot! As for the question, is it accurate of not? It hit that building thats proof enough for me, they can hit the target. Even if its not perfect hit, they have multiple thousands of just these bombs so they can just shoot more?

For my part, the FAB 3000 hit accurately enough. It is the point of such big bombs that their explosive power and blast radius make pinpoint accuracy unnecessary. However I can´t rule out that these bombs get deliberetly directed beside buildings to create a more powerful blast. Nukes for example got detonated above the ground for maximum destruction.

I think you are wrong about that only 2 SU34 can carry FAB 3000,,All SU34 can carry a payload of 16.000 pounds max,,So they could carry one FAB3000 under the aircraft,,And still carry 2 1000 pound bombs under each wing,,,Keep in mind,,The Russians still have 140 SU34 In total the Russian air force has 3700 aircraft of various types,,

The people in the comments are coming up with all kinds of wild theories about why the fab3k is missing the building. It is a new experimental kit for for the 3k bomb, and while the guidance is not accurate to an inch, it is still more than accurate enough to be effective for a bomb of this calibre. People forget that the fabs 500 and 1.5k were also less accurate at their inception, then got improved by trial and error.

Do not assume that the offset impact of the FAB3000 was unintentional. Testing targeting on a discernible metric is the most likely reason for the offset impact. Prior to impact what were the visible lines or points that could be used to measure the accuracy of the impact on the ground? Also the pressure wave would eliminate any occupant on that side of the building.
