My band @Cole Hollow had the honor of opening for The Blue Stones in Peoria, IL. They are such cool and humble dudes. They gave us a shout out while they were on stage and it was the coolest moment of my musical career. They are an amazing band and It really blows my mind how good they sound live.

I hear ya! My buddies and I had a band and played a few gigs around Toronto, mostly to rooms full of around 50 friends or so. One day about five years ago, we get a call to play a small bar gig and open for a band with a new album dropping. Turns out it's The Blue Stones. Holy shit, did they blow our minds! We didn't know them beforehand, but by the end of the night we couldn't believe we were playing the same room as them. In a small room, these guys are absolutely electric, huge energy in a crowd. Been a big fan ever since that one gig, and I see them whenever I get the chance!

Am getting a lot of cool inspirations from the Blue Stones, who I only just discovered today, and also Nothing but Thieves. But the idea of actually making something of it and gigging a bunch sounds like a conflicting beatdown when trying to imagine doing it alongside a thriving day job career.

10:53 This is such a relatable explanation to me. Except I chose the stable, happy enough route with a career and family 15 years ago. Had a tempting opportunity to do something with music 7 uears ago but chose to stay the course. Now after a divorce and an opportunity to step back and reassess, I am now looking at "not too late to see what could have been" window of opportunity to do something with music. Am writing a lot of interesting things, in just a solo capacity doing everything myself, and even it turns into something that has real merit and potential, the thought of trading spots and pursuing the grind of touring and being away from family, while also risking my career fall back place seems so difficult to jump on. I wish there was a way to put out great music that could reach a large audience while not having to go all in pn the sacrifices that are an otherwise prerequisite for making something legit in music. I am actually super tempted to try to figure out a way to split the difference and make a business out of enabling that avenue for more part time artists in this same position. I've successfully started multiple business in a private equity investor role, so I could legitimately pull it off from the business side, if there was a workable way to make this happen within the limitations of how the music industry works. I'm thinking about it a lot these days.

Two observations that the Blue Stones do better than White Stripes and Black Keys: One: they have a real professional drummer who is integral to the music, not just a human metronome for the frontman. Two: they play real professional gear, not plastic guitars for the hipster cred.
